Okay thanks for the tips guys. I went out today and bought brainded hose and fittings and a tee.

I should clarify that this is not correct:
When using the oil sender port, the hole in the block is 1/8" BSP 28 tpi, not 1/8" NPT 27 tpi. A 1/8 NPT fitting WILL leak. The best setup is to put a fitting into the block and come off of it with a #3 Earls stainless hose.
The BSP fittings I bought did not fit, the thread jammed after 2 turns. The sender is in fact a 1/8 NPT and threads in nicely as it should until the end where it sits tight. I can't see this leaking.

It also make more sense now as

1: Why would the japanese use British Standard Pipe

2: Explains why there's a myriad of NPT fittings and hardly any BSP fittings to convert to AN that Earls and SpeedFlow use.

I'm not so sure about that (in fact in general I think that is wrong).

BSP is equivalent to JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) thread...

"ISO 7/1 Tapered Pipe Threads - also known as DIN 2999, BSP 21, JIS B0203"

That's fairly interesting but it doesn't explain why BSP will not fit in the block and NPT did...

I'm really confused because I've now gone out and bought all NPT stuff and even the pressure sender bolted into the NPT tee while it didn't into the BSP one...

If someone whose done it could perhaps confirm one or the other it would help me greatly.

With the threads, when i got my mechanical oil pressure guage, it came with a fitting for the block but that only turned into the block 2 full revolutions untill it got really tight. Didn't think that was correct but my dad just screwed it in a little futher and i've taken it in and out a couple of times since and now screws in about 4-5 threads/revolutions. Sorry i couldn't tell you if it was NPT or BSP thread but its just the common one you get with the Speco guages. Hope that helps.

    Thanks Neg Boost.

I think perhaps the WC Engineering article may be right, going by that and the link wilbo posted the thread measures up to be a 1/8" BSP or 1/8" ISO-7 thread. This might help me find some fittings, I've got all sorts now so I can afford to stuff around with it for the time being.

Researching this some more it seems that the threads are supposed to lock forming a seal, I also remembered, why can't I just use thread tape on the mis-matched fittings? (without flame)

with the threads, it's actually BSTP, which if you don't know is tapered thread. it's designed to seal itself, that's why it stops turning after a couple of turns.

you shouldn't use thread tape, cuz if some gets into an oil gallery it'll block it and starve something of oil.

    Quick question:

Are the people with the t-piece snapping off in the block using aftermarket gauge sensors or just the standard oil pressure sensor?

    Mine was aftermarket.

However i think those brass fittings would still break overtime even if nothing was on them, just from vibration.

Ideally I think a soft line should be run from a T piece to a pressure sender to avoid the brass T from snapping at the block.

Okay I've sorted it all out now, thanks to all those who've posted. The layout is as follows:

    Block
    |
1/8" BSP to AN -4 union
    |
AN -4 to 1/8" braided hose straight fitting
    |
    1/8" stainless braided hose
    |
AN -4 to 1/8" BSP union
    |
    1/8" BSP female tee
    |_____________________ stock 4AGE SX oil pressure sender
    |
1/8" BSP to AN -4 union
    |
AN -4 to 1/8" braided hose straight fitting
    |
    1/8" stainless braided hose
    |
AN -4 to 1/8" braided hose straight fitting
    |
custom lathed AN -4 union silver soldered onto turbo oil inlet

    Phew!

I got the braided hose and dash 4 fittings from Outlaw Speed Equipment and they are Speedflow items. The 1/8" BSP tee I got from Sprint and the rest of the unions I got from Enzed.
