    Wink Sloppy box wanted!!!!!

My 28 should be out of the paint shop in a week or two. It's been in there since August. So to say I am getting a little anxious would be an understatement. I intend to keep the 18RC in it for a while yet. I hope to build up a 18RG in time. The car has the original auto box in it. What latter model auto box can I slot in there?? I don't want to waste any money on the existing box.

Suggestion, if you put in the W50 manual now it will save you having to spend money on an auto at all.

Don't worry, the gearbox will suit the 18RG later on

To fit the manual you will need the pedal box, clutch master cylinder, gearbox, xmember and tailshaft. All of which you will need when you put in the RG. I'm assuming you do intend to go to a manual then... ?

Thanx guys. We have a 5 speed in the green 28 my son is driving. Very nice ride. I wouldn't be all that unhappy with keeping an auto in my 28 for a few years. That is why I was looking for something a bit better that the 3 speed slush bucket that is in it now. I am looking at a few Rgs at the moment and even a hot RC maybe for Adam's car. Don't want the hemerage the old box. The wife is not very unbderstranding about unreliable old cars. Go figure.

Yeah, the tailshaft will remain the same.
Otherwise you can use the A40 from the RA60's but there is a bit of mucking about with them, like the tailshaft, linkages to the selector will probably need to be resized (need RA60 selector) etc etc. so not an easy fit, but will go.

Personally I would say stick the W50 in... save your headaches, and what little power the 18R-C will give you too.

Not if he uses an RA60 box it wont. RA40 and RA28 shafts are identical, RA60 are longer.
