Well, where's it twisting? 99.4% chance it's slop in the diff. Grab the flange on the diff itself and see if that's what is twisting. Especially if it has got the bogwarmer diff, then enormous slop is completely expected.

if it is a uni joint you should be able to move the tail shaft up and down, side to side

ok, well im pretty sure i cant move it from side to side, or up and down,
all i know is i grab the tailshaft and i can turn it a a few cm's, 2max i reckon,

i dont drop the clutch or drive stupid, so will this be fine to drive for a while?,
can anything happen?...cause i know ive heard a few clunks from the rear end, and ive looked and double checked all bolts and shit!, sooo, hmm, bit confused!

put it in neutral, handbrake on tight (and bricks in front and behind wheels), (or get friend to stand on brake) then get under and twist driveshaft. if it moves, it is backlash in the diff.

whilst not very good... and it will do damage, if you are babying it, you should get to where you need to go..

but it is better in the long run to readjust now, and then the diff should last you a LOT longer and not give you trouble..

is it a borg warner or jap diff (are there bolts on the back or the front of the diff?)

ok, there are no bolts on the rear of the diff, only oil plug one,
i put car in neutral, GF put brakes on, and the tailshaft still moves, but it dont move up or down, or left to right!,
so backlash in diff you say?!

    aww shucks, thanks..

if there are no bolts ont he back, it is a jap type diff... meaning that if you pull out the axles, then undo the bolts at the front of the diff, (and unbolt tailshaft ) the diff centre comes out the front... then you can adjust the backlash with the diff out of the car, which is a shitload easier!!

if you are not sure, you could take it to a dif specialist (if there are any in tassie) and get them to set the backlash for you... or you could try and convicne a local toymoddian to cast an eye over it for you

pull out your gregories manual and it should give you a step by step

the ke55 should have the jap spec info in it still. im pretty sure mine does.

anyways your best bet will be to try and source a borg warner diff. its stronger than the jap spec one and has bigger drums. i sold my last one for $50 bucks

i would like to see why you think that the bog warmer is stronger... any particular reason?

i had a jap spec one that didnt hold up as long as my borg warner. the borgy went too but it lasted a while both of them came out of pretty low km cars. i suppose there are alot of factors that could affect the outcome of destroying both diffs. i guess in some ways i made the assumption that the borg warner, being bigger, was also stronger.

but if you have definative evidence that the jap spec diff is stronger im more than open to hear it and will retract my commet. either diffs are exactly strong but based on what ive read about people experiences the BW seem to hold up longer than the jap ones
