I was quoted $500-700 done and done.
Im going through john V as above and he's given me verbal clearance on everything so far. thats 1G into RA28 - ke70 crossmember shortened and re-inforced - corona mark II diff - rack and pinion setup - fuel system.
took parts down to him and discussed all with him. 45minute chat and it was only a $50 investment.
he's also who Rod Thetoyoman75 on here is using. Easy to get along with and very reasonable and realistic.
oh and he's in peakhurst .. closer than Newy![]()

I noticed from your Readers Ride Thread that you were planning to replace the factory Computer, and I assume AFM. My car was engineered much the same as yours with standard computer etc. I have since gone the single turbo path along with an aftermarket computer. 'Cos I have been overseas my car is in storage and the rego has expired and as the engine number has changed since the car last registered I will have to revisit an engineer when I look to put it back on the road in the near future. I would be interested in yours or other peoples experience in getting a car engineered with an after market computer!

Did the engineer say anything about emissions? ive just got an ra23 1ggte engineered(just needs paint now) and he had no problems with brakes/diff/ engine clearance. only things he was worried about was noise and pollution. Noise is easy just do the test but he said i had to get a certificate proving the engine complied with then current australian emisson(1977) standards-which i could either get by doing the test myself (BUCKS) or buying one from an compliancer(MORE BUCKS). in the end i went straight lpg as it also means no cat and can run any turbo/intercooler without the need to get it reengineered but i was wondering did anyone else have to go through this drama?
im just wondering how he thinks a 77 celica that ran on super is going to have better emissions than th 198X soarer that had the 1GGTE?!
of course the 1G has better emmissions blah blah
sometimes I think people in this industry are smoking crack non stop.![]()

Emmisions testing is a mandatory thing if they are really doing things properly. Your finished project has to comply with whatever ADR rules it was built with. For example my 1970 wagon has no compliance so No emissions test. My 73 Celica has an applicable ADR so requires an emissions test BUT there is not reference for it to pass against. (Ie its a red tape exercise)
The RA28 is booked in for emissions testing late this month. If all is working as it should it will pass no worries. things like your charcoal canister and slow o2 sensors, tired cats or weaping fuel lines can easily bugger you up tho. The emissions test is fo rthe entirecar, not just what comes out the tailpipe.
As for the cost - they are FREE in NSW when done as part of an engineers report, and conducted in both Penrith and Botany testing centres.
And yes i am using John at Consulmotive for my RA28 1G swap. I still have things to get tidy before I see him tho. Pretty sure he will want handbrake cables
Oh and you will need a weigh bridge ticket too. Again its a formaility but you will be asked for one by the RTA when you update your rego papers for a modified vehicle.

Does you reference to the TA22 having 'no reference to test against' relate to the fact that the car is pre July 1976 or that it is running an original engine block and is pre June 1976. Would the same apply if you were running the 1ggteu in the TA22 or as with the RA28 would the emissions have to apply to the year of manufacture of the engine swapped in.
I have had some conflicting advice that different rule apply prior to cars manufacture 1 July 1976 when ADR27A was introduced (ie my TA23). I know that I can always chase this up with the engineer when I return but some clarity now would be great.

Craig,
Different engineers all interperet the requirements differently so you need to pick an enginner and make him happy
I am led to believe that vehicles pre Jan 1975, but after Jan 73 are in a grey area. They have an applicable ADR but no actual designated threshold to comply with. I have to get the TA22 re-engineered hopefully late this year so I'll see what John wants then but my last engineer required the test to be done as its a mid 73 model. When I asked the EPA officer if I passed he told me the EPA have no guideline for pre 75 vehciles so it was at the engineers discretan.
The RA28 of course is 1977 so has to be done and is required to run all the emissions items as they relate to the engine fitted, not the vehicle itself.

if youve got an ta22 ra22 or early pre77 ra23 then emissions are not so bad after that they start to become a pain. oh god i love lpguntill i run out in the middle of nowhere

Thanks Rod
So what would be the position if you were running an aftermarket computer on your RA28?
