    Default 18rg Seems slow

hey guys, i have a 18RG that ive rebuilt. The head is fully rebuilt its got new rings honed bores and rod bearings, and extractors. Its fully tuned but still seems quite similar to my 18RC in my hilux 4x4. Im wondering if this could be because ive got a pair of solexs that apparently come off an Alfa

What type of Alfa was it. If it was an 1800cc or a 1600cc have you changed the jets in the carbs?

the carbies are in sync, new plugs, timings right, A/F is right. just curious what compression is the 253 head run. Its an 18RGR block and 253 head.

    Hi,

I think the 253 head has an 8.4 or 8.7 compression ratio.

In stock form it was one of the less powerful 18R-G engines, but it should still have a good 30+hp over a stock 18R-C.

oh ok, i thought there was a low comp. head just wasnt sure which one it was. there is a little bit more power but not really a big change. i spose with the 4x4 being much heavier then the celica aswell.
On a compression test i got pretty much 145psi through the 4 pistons would that be normal with that head.

just discovered that the throttles only opening 3/4 with my foot flat, trying work something out to have it fully open. I think i need proper throttle linkage, ive got a bodge one made up.

yeah , thanks. I wonder wat the higher compression heads would be like if ive got the lower compression head and it goes like that.

Yeah i just had to bend the Hilux pedal back a lot bit. Now i get WOT, woot-woot. I just need to sort out my jetting sizes to get them all to the 18RG specs seeing as they come off the alfa.

Here a pic of both jets, i understand that these jets dont look the same as the ones from the 18RG. Ive put the sizes or numbers that show on the jet its self. The little one i had drilled by my mechanic.

Edit: Where it says 192 it should be 190
