Default Digital dash on the blink

    Hi,

My dash is playing up in my MA61, it started with just the fuel readout jumping up and down, and the low fuel light coming on even though I have half a tank still. Then my tachometer lights died completely, and under braking, the whole dash would blink on and off rapidly! On the way home it also started giving me wrong speed figures (172km/h!)

Could someone please tell me what the cause of this might be? It seems very intermittent, I thought at first that my battery connection might have started to wiggle loose, but it's fine... I have no idea regarding fuses and stuff.

    Cheers

Mine used to do this intermittently too. It can be the voltage regulator in the dash or a bad earth. In my case cleaning the battery terminals seemed to fix it. I did give the dash a new extra earth prior but it didnt help. It seems to not be a case of the dash being on the blink but rather not getting enough voltage

Thanks people, I had another look at my battery tonight...

So yeah, it was definitely a grounding problem!

My old one did something similar, it went all blinky, but only when the headlights on, I was indicating, AND put my foot on the brakes.

So I cleaned the terminals, made sure they were on tight, even added an extra 4 guage earth.

It fixed it for about a week, then started doing it again. So I cut her in half.

mine also did this - turned out the coolant pipe running above the alternator to the rad was leaking rusty crud onto the alt. Replaced hose & clamps and the random flickering went away.
