i usually go to an engineering supplies shop for the loctite products but they didnt have anything small for the application auto 1 and repco never have any of that fancy stuff

I use 3 bond. Not sure which one it is. It is the black stuff. It came in a little tube and was around $25-30 from memory.

Permatex Ultra Blue FTW, I use it on engines, gearboxes, diffs, etc etc at work, always works a treat. Just make sure the surfaces to seal are perfectly clean, any oil whatsoever and it wont stick and will leak.

loctite ultra grey always does my sumps.

i just used 3bond 1207C, The orange-brown stuff.

Never had a problem and i used it on near dammed everything.

check with your dealer ie toyota they use a genuine sealant in a tube it will do about 3 motors pnc 0882600080a black sealant approx 40.00 retail

4a series (and most engines after 83) dont have a sump gasket
instead they use the sealant many ppl here have mentioned
one big advantage of it is you dont need to let it set before adding oil.
its so good we often supply it to other franchises!!

if you are having constant issues i would say you have a problem that the leak is merely a symptom of. PVC system working ok?

i'll back up gtz1's idea, the toyota FIPG is the shit to use, as long as your mating surfaces are clean, that stuff will never leak.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, I've just fitted my engine only to realise it has the wrong sump (no cooler return port), so the f**king thing has to come off in-situ. The engine has been fully rebuilt with new strainer pump etc and I really don't want to have to pull it all apart, is it necisary to reseal the baffle plate as well or can I just swap the sump over and seal that in place. The engine hasn't seen oil since the rebuild.

Threebond grey is OEM gasket for most Japanese make. Not sure product no but grey colour.
Permatex cure harder than most silicone. Those two are the best for me.

Worldwalker - it probably depends on how neatly you can take off the sump. If you can part the Threebond between the sump and baffle, you should be pretty safe to just fit the new sump........ BUT it's pretty fiddly doing it in situ [ask me how I know]

hi guys i have used most and have found the genuine Toyota sealant is the best pnc 08826 00080a approx $30.00 per tube most Toyota dealers have it on the shelf

I swear my toyota genuine overhaul gasket kit included something for the sump, maybe I just didn't look at it properly though. Toyodiy doesn't show it. Will look next chance I get.
