    Default clutch problems

    hi all,
ive recently been experiencing a problem with the clutch in my sprinter. the setup is as follows; 4agte, t50 gearbox, excedy brass-button clutch with heavier pressure plate and a freshly machined flywheel, i have also replaced the standard cluch line (rubber) with a braided steel line.

now sometimes when coming to a stop with the car in gear and the clutch depressed, the car will stall like i dont have the clutch in at all? ive bled the clutch a few times, and the fluids always full. any ideas as to a likely problem? the cluch slave is near the exaust, maybe the fluid is boiling? weird part is but it doesent do it consistantly just every now and then?

    cheers
    craig.

My mate was running an excedy brass button clutch in his VL... Had it put in by a work shop and all. But somehow, they put an incorrect bearing it, causing it to wear prematurely...

Could it be that your bearing is the wrong size and from time to time it grabs un-willingly?

Just chucking another idea out there. But its probaly not a likely candidate seeing its not happening very often...

    Goodluck anyway,

What is the adjustment on the clutch pedal like?

Is the clutch getting fully disengaged? Perhaps the driving is enough to heat the clutch components causing them expand (due to the head) to not have enough movement to release the clutch?

    Cheers

How have you been bleading the clutch?????

Have you checked that the clutch master and slave aren't leaking by pulling the boot back inside the firewall.

Sounds to me like it is an air issue.

It sounds like the master cyl rubbers have worn to the point where the fluid is being bypassed within the cyl and not holding pressure when sitting at idle.
    Cheers Brett.

maybe my best bet is to rebuild the master and slave then? im confident it has been blead as a mechanic friend and i spent quite a bit of time on the hoist bleading it when this problem first arrose. would leaking seals cause the problem to be intermitent?

I was meaning is there enough movement to ensure release?...if there is a lot of play at the top of the pedal that won't be ideal.

They idea of pressure leaking past the seals is also a good one

    Cheers

yea the play at the yop of the pedal is not excecive just normal. think ill bung new seals in master and slave and see how we go from there.
