    Default 2jz into JZS160R

    Hi,

Been looking at the Aristo, but not to keen on the styling of the JZS147.

How much would it cost to put a 2J into the newer shape Oz delivered GS300?

    Thanks.

Halfcut and a tank of fuel.

But seriously, its the most open ended question ever.

    OK

What model front cut do i need does the Jap spec GS300 version have a 5 speed or 4 speed auto.

I can install the mecahnicals, putting in the electrics is the concern or could i run some type of aftermarket computer and somehow control the gearbox?

    Thanks

    What year is the GS300?

Toyota changed the way they control things like the dash in either the late 90's or early 2000's.

Its now much harder to do the electronic side of things, almost to the point where its well out of reach of home convertors, and probably a lot of good auto sparkies (unless you are able to source complete wiring diagrams for both cars).

Price wise for conversion depends on your wallet.
You can buy the cut, drop it in without replacing anything, cheap exhaust, cheap IC/piping, and bare minimum wiring to get you going.

Or you could do it properly.
Spent a grand replacing all the misc items on the engine (seals, plugs, belts etc), get a proper exhaust first time around, good IC, good piping, wire it up so that everything works as per factory, get the aircon gassed/working.

But then do you upgrade the brakes to help stop? new/wider rims? bigger/better/stickier tyres? better suspension?

Do you bother getting it engineered and 100% legal?

Some people have spent maybe $1,000 on top of the front cut price doing a conversion on the cheap.
Others have spent in excess of $10,000 (easy to do) doing it properly and making sure the rest of the car can handle what you can now throw at it.

Sorry this isn't a very technical post but you aren't going to find a lot of people who have experience with a 2JZGTE into Aus JZS160 (btw, the R stands for right hand drive)

If you got a complete JZS160 front cut the mechanical side of things would be piss easy, but as Cruzida pointed out the electronic side of things would be a major PITA. I'd only do something like this if I was willing to throw away the factory management and run an aftermarket ECU, but if you're staying auto that makes things complicated.

Another option is to install a NA-T kit on the original 2JZ-GE engine with some sort of piggyback ECU; this sort of thing has been done with some success by MkIV Supra owners.
