Default 4agte blowing lots smoke and missing

    More troubles it seems...

I took the car for a squirt last night and it was running a bit rough in the bottom end (coughing and spluttering). After some spirited driving it lost power and stalled on deceleration. After starting it again it began blowing smoke from the atmo vented PCV (small filter on it) and from the exhaust when idling.

When driving HEAPS of smoke was coming from the exhaust (none noticable from the PCV from the cabin). It was also missing quite a bit and consistently, like a sick WRX.

I checked the plugs and #3 was wet with fuel, and disconnecting any one of the spark leads only made the idle a little worse.

A few days before I noticed a tapping noise from the head on idle (which I thought was the shims), I also added a little extra oil.

    Have I killed it?

Sounds a bit like you've blown a piston, you didn't happen to overboost at any time? Overboost usually will do in a piston or ring or ring land. They all result in a lot of smoke and through the PCV is no suprise.

Check for a BHG but to be honest it sounds a lot like you be taking the head off soon.

I am only running 6psi, but the timing isn't 100% atm. It happened at WOT in 3rd around 7000rpm.

I know Lambolica had a blowing smoke issue when he had the 1GGTE sprinter. And i mean clouds of white trailing behind bad.

I posses this motor and have taken the head of which showed the pistons moved 1-2mm in any direction around the bore. So with that i suspect the rings.

And from what i hear oil then gets into the combustion chamber and makes the white smoke as its burnt.

Either way it means the head is going to come off to have a look.
You might get away with dropping the sump off and seeing if the pistons have any movement in the bore??

    Hope this helps.

From what I could tell at night my smoke wasn't that white. It did smell like oil though.

I thought white smoke was steam, blueish was oil and black was fuel?

Chow piston ......nice working with you

Do a compression test m8 it will tell you whats going on.

My guess is that no.3 piston has cracked a ring land .

Is it the big port bottom end ?

i used to have it down to about 25min to pull a piston out and swap it over i broke that many of em.

They wil crack the ring land every time !!

Get a GZE bottom end --- they thrive on boost

I assumed from this that you had a bigport bottom end ?? Not the gze bottom end and a big port head.

Big port bottom ends are no good turbo. like i stated.

Check for a BHG, that's white residue on the oil cap and bubbles coming from the radiator when the engine is running. Though it now seems unlikely as you said it's not white smoke.

Blue smoke is certainly oil and it sounds a lot like oil is getting into the combustion chamber. A compression test should confirm that.

I ran a compression test today....

    Cyl #1 = 134 PSI
    Cyl #2 = 140 PSI
    Cyl #3 = 0 PSI, yes 0!!! I even double checked
    Cyl #4 = 139 PSI

    Somthing is definately buggered...
