gen 1 soarer up to 88/01 mark11 and chaser /cresta/ supra up to 88/08 all take 88340 head from 88/08 all take 88341 but early pnc s/s to 88341 which means you can use the late head in place off the early with a few extra parts as per the toyota list in japan

doesnt make sense as the Gen3s were the latest 1G and theyve all had 88340 so far.

Well, after taking apart the GZE today, there is no number on the head at all!

Also, the cams were numbered "No 1" and "No 2" instead of the GTE cams which were 1-88340 and 2-88340...

    Very unexpected...

Sorry, I forgot to mention that bit.

The pistons are different, more dish, so lower comp. I'll get a thread and the pics up later

The 1G-GZE rod is supposed to be shorter than the 1G-GTE Rod ?

No, rods same length. If you are referring to the fact I've posted you can stroke the engine by offset grinding it with a GZE rod, you have to machine 1mm of the top of the piston. I have also posted that this is fine, they have like 5-6mm of ring land, and it affects the compression bugger all, like .2 of a point.

For anyone trying to build an engine, every single head, from every single series, are all the same port and chamber castings. There are monor differences elsewhere, like the ZE heads don't have oil feeds for turbo's, and in the centre valley where the plugs go, NA heads have 6 welsh plugs not 3, but they are all the same from a power production point, just use what you have, or whats the cleanest.

Just to clarify Kyles point as I interperet it. For anyone not familiar with offset grinding of cranks. The Crank bigend location is ground offset making it smaller. The GZE rods (At least some of them if not all) have a 2mm smaller bigend bearing making them pefect for the smaller bigend once the crank is ground. The rods are not 2mm shorter !

Kyle, Feel free to correct me if I misunderstood.

I'm pretty sure you are correct, but not in the case of the GZE we pulled apart on Sat...

Further clarification. The big end is 2mm smaller than the late 1G Bigend (Gen 3 for example) Ie all 3 engines you have stripped would appear to be the early series bottom ends What you need now is a Gen 3 crank, not more early series Rods. The question is tho... What are the main bearing sizes ?? Do you need to use a Late 1G Block, to use a Late 1G crank ??? I am exppecting the answer to be yes but have no idea. Or does something else conflict ?

Does that mean that you'd give me the crank from your late model gen 3 1g-gte?
