I assumed from this that you had a bigport bottom end ?? Not the gze bottom end and a big port head.

Big port bottom ends are no good turbo. like i stated.

errmmm... gze came out as a bigport (aw11), and they love the turbo.

and to add to the fact that i've been running a 7 rib 4age bigport engine (9.4:1 stock casties) on 12psi for over 3 1/2 years now. a good 3 of them with a bodge double HG to help lower the c/r, and the rest with a single HG.

not the mention that big port gze's and bigport ge's the only difference is the pistons.. the rest of the bottom end is the same.

eg smallport - smallport gze is pistons as well?

im pretty sure your correct there and same to sivler top 20v i believe the rods and crank are identical. certainly the bigport-smallport crank is identical.
