    Default ADR 37 emissions testing

I spent a bit of time on the phone today calling engineers, the EPA, and various other individuals, and still learning very little about ADR 37 emissions testing. It seems that if any engineer in Victoria is going to contemplate looking at my car, I need to have it ADR 37 tested. It also seems that the only place 'qualified' to do such testng is VIPAC, who didn't actually bother to return my call to give me an idea on pricing! However, I've heard a variety of suggestiions about what it might cost, none of which are particularly cheap... Calling Toyota, Ford, etc. didn't help much either, as nobody I asked had any idea what I was talking about.

What I am wondering is, has anyone had ADR 37 testing done? Is it much easier (due to more competition/different rules) in other places, e.g. Sydney? It seems that folks in NSW or QLD are able to get their cars engineered with considerably less hassle than us southerners. Tell me your stories, please!

    That just isn't fair...
I'd be happy to pay, say, $100, but $3000 seems a bit stiff... Plus, I hardly see the need to stick the car in a big oven and look for evaporative loss when it runs straight LPG and any fuel leak would be quite the problem...

is that the full cycle ADR test tho? or just a tailpipe sniffer at idle?

    free testing = good

You would think that a pass from a NSW emissions should be enough....

Maybe its time to make a new friend in the engine tuning industry... or find some old guy who does and marry into the family

    Shin,

You need to ascertain if it is ADR 37.00 or ADR 37.01 that you need to comply with. for 00 I had a tailpipe check on mine $30.

I'll PM you the name of the engineer who did my car, he was honest and thorough.

You might be able to get away with an Individually Constructed Vehicle test which is about $6-700. Toby @ Meridian should know about this.

What year is the car by the way?

I was under the impression in Vic LPG cars did not have to comply with relevant ADR`s regarding emissions, well thats what ive been told and when i had to engineer my 5K in my rolla "vicroads tool" the engineer let me lean it off untill it passed the sniff test. they were fair and use common sense aproach you`ll be fine.

I just wish I could be treated like that! Every engineer I've spoken to wants 'proof of continued compliance to ADR 37 (.00 or .01 depends on which engineer, naturally...)' and the only way they can have that is in the form of a test. VIPAC seem to be the only people to do said test, and they aren't too good at returning calls... Plus, calling the EPA was a waste of time, as expected.

Yep, ran mine on the rolling road/dyno for full emissions testing as part of the engineering aproval. - was free and took about an hour or so all up. Took about 4 weeks to book it in though..

    Passed with flying colours...

Finally got someone to answer the phone at VIPAC today - the test costs $1400+GST, and they want the car for two days...

I'd love to know if I can get it done interstate and then use the certificate here though!

Dont you only need that full test if the doner engine is run away from stock , when i had my 7m gte engineered, it didnt have any sniffer tests , he just made sure it was all stock toyota parts and no aftermarket ecu,s etc, ran a noise test checked the mounts and that was it , that was a few years ago.
are you saying shin that if i want to engineer say a totally stock 2jz into say a cressida we have to have this test done . cant be right .
if it is i will just register in NSW to my dads house .

advantage of the 7m being it is an oz delivered motor, and it was standard... I'm assuming shinny has either a) JDM engine or b) non-standard engine, which now requires emissions tests.

one would assume that since it's an ADR, that you could get it done in NSW... but I bet that could cause you additional headaches. would be worth it tho, to drive up here, get it tested, drive back and be over $1k ahead*
