    Default Power FC &1JZ problems

    G'day,
I had a secondhand PFC installed when the truck had the 1JZ-GTE installed and have had 2 issues with it.

The first problem is the PFC isn't controlling the idle properly. It takes a few minutes when the car is first turned on where it will stall if you don't keep your foot on the gas (just enough to keep it at idle speed 600rpm) and randomly nearly stalls thens revs up to 1500rpm then returns to normal if the revs are bellow 1500rpm. It also randomly will rev up then return to normal a few times in a row.

The second problem is that it won't save the tune from the dyno. It accepts the tune while the laptop is pluged in then looses it when the laptop is disconnected. This was overcome by tuning it in my car then putting the computer in another car and downloading the tune into it and putting it back in my car.

A few extra detials - the PFC model number isFC 99E 0077 for JZA70/1JZ-GTE
    - the ISCV is a sealed unit and cannot be thoughly cleaned
    - My car is a RN85R Hilux with a 1JZ-GTE from a JZA70 halfcut

    Cheers

    Dave

Forgot to mention that it didn't come with a hand controller.

Another seperate problem is that the dipstick is getting lifted by pressure. What would be possible causes and solutions. Oil pressure guage is cheap so I don't trust it but it reads @60psi at idle and goes of the clock at 100psi if I give it a boot full.

the map not saving is a wiring problem.

You need to wire the ECU so it gets power and switches on/off exactly like the original vehicle the 1J was in. The most common wiring fault I've seen with 1J PFC's not saving settings is the loom not being wired to use the MREL output the way toyota designed it.

for the dipstick blowing out issue, check your PCV valve.

    Dave,
Check your 'MREL' relay (if you have one).

I had the same problem on my 2J.

Fixed with some small wiring mods....

Your first problem sounds similar to a problem I had tho I would assume it would be slightly different.

I had my map sensor incorrectly hooked up, which ment it was running on one load setting. When I drove it, in its fkd state (thought it wass just from bigger injectors! lol) it would do somethinf similar to what you discribe. rev high for a bit then drop down to where it nearly stalled then rev up, down, up etc. at idle tho it never actualy stalled. I'd mayby check that you map sensor is getting the correct vaccum line feed and maybe check that the sensor is reading correctly.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be checking these things tomorrow.

Had a look at some of these faults yesterday/today.

I have a new PCV valve on order. Apparently this has been redesigned, so I'm getting a little more then just the valve.

I gave the ISCV as best a clean as I could (it's a sealed unit) so this may be a future upgrade.

I have know idea if my car has a master relay. There are 5 relays that were added with the conversion - a circuit open relay and another original for the fuel system; and 3 others. There is also the original starter relay. If someone could link some JZA70 wiring diagrams it would make this part a lot easier.

    Update

New PCV valve has reduced the amount the dipstick is blowing out. It only lifts a bit over 5mm now compaired to the original 15mm.

The workshop that did the conversion is looking into the master relay thing. (getting wiring diagrams for JZA70 and stuff)
    That's it for now.

Is the ISCV actually hooked up? Can you hear it clicking to reset itself when you shut the car down? I had the exact same problem with the power fc on my vvti 1J and that's what the problem ended up being

I haven't listened for it making any noises. I just figured it was connected cause the car was idling. I'll check this tomorrow.

Nope, they'll idle without it hooked up. With a factory ECU it'll be a constant high idle. With a power FC it'll hunt for an idle because they try and self-learn, but without a working ISCV it wont be able to control it.

If any one could point me in the right direction as to where to get JZA70 wiring diagrams, it would be much appriciated.

Without goining deep into 1JZ wiring diagrams - i'd say that the dome power circuit is not hooked up right (basically, it's a permanent power source that's fused - in this case the interior light circuit)?
