I've had that same trouble before now. Can't for the life of me figure it out. I think it's the resistance of the cabling or something.
Does anyone know why an inductive timing light wouldn't work on a coil pack 4agze?
It works fine on my gf's mirage....

there should be a special induction loop in the wiring somewhere for just that purpose, at the back of the engine somewhere..?
hang on...are 4agze's coil pack-ed from the factory?

I have a Crown
At a rough shot.
Have you tried putting the timing light lead on the other way ????? IE so the spark is traveling away from the no.1 cyl ??? not towards it.
I had a thread going about something very similar to this a little while ago.
It was to do with CDI changing coil polarity as my no 1 cyl is a negative fire ....... so i neeed to conect the timing light back to front.

How do you mean back to front?
The timing light I have just has a clip type thing that goes over the spark lead. It doesn't really touch anything.

On some engine setups that are wasted spark, one spark is positive and one spark is negative. It is usually no.1 cyl that is positive and its opposite cylinder which in your case is no.4 is the negative cylinder. UNDERSTAND ?
Any how this fore mentioned is not always the case. I run a CDI ignition in my car and it turns out that the no.1 cyl is a negative spark so to do the timing i connect the timing lead to the no.1 cyl with the arrow on lead FACING AWAY from the spark plug.
Try this and see if you light starts to flash![]()
