21rc Question

ok well i have to goto regency soon so i can get my Celica off of defect...
anyway, i have 4-2-1 Genie Extractors, and above that there is a small pipe (sorta like on the
22re but only 1) and right at the end it is sorta crimped, is this how its meant to be?

also is it illegal to have the whole exhaurst welded? (as in no flanges)

ahh. cant get one at the moment.. car still hasnt been returned from the body shop..

Don't know about legally, but its a pretty stupid idea, how do you intend to take the exhaust off?

It's not illegal (well, at least in NSW - but I can't imagine why it would be), but yes it would be a bit of a pain to go straight from exhaust manifold to tip without a flange.

re: that pipe, what is the other end connected to? that will tell you whether it's important.
You can bet regency won't like the look of a crimped pipe like that in your engine bay tho

well i got the exhaust like that, i dont intend on doing anything to the exhaust until i get
a better engine... we noticed it was like that when i got my muffler replaced.

it goes into the manifold (where the gasket is) sorta looks like it goes into the head... but
i was just looking at my Sisters RA60 which is all stock and there is no hole where the
pipe should come out of the big box thingy (cant remember what its called)..

could be the pipe for the air pump into the exhaust (emissions)

Its to pump fresh air into the exhaust. Had one on my 22re but got taken off when extractors were put on.

The person that put the extractors on probably couldnt be bothered taking it all off. There should be a black canister thing that goes to your airbox, this is part of it all and in your setup isnt doing anything. You can take it off if you can be bothered....I did on mine.

thanks for that mate, yeah im going to take it off... dosent really look good in the engine
bay (not like anything else looks good either lol)
