Default Help please - RN85 heater tap.

Hi all, im just installing my heater on my YN57 as the old heater tap shat itself. i got one off a Rn85 2WD. The motor was gone so i couldnt see how it was hooked up. ON the valve, it has an arrow. Obviously this indicated the direction of flow - does the arrow point towards the heater or back into the motor?

ON the commodore donk, it looks similar to the 3Y motor - in the way of an outlet/ inlet on the water pump and another inlet/ outlet on the back of the intake manifold...one should think they work the same, ie i wont be pressuring and blowing up the heater?

    thanks guys

when mounted on the firewall, the downwards-facing outlet goes to the heater core, the outlet pointing horizontal goes to the outlet on the water pump

The other heater connection gets plumbed in from the block or somewhere near the back of the motor.

is a closed system, heater core is under the same pressure as the engine cooling system - the tap simply stops flow, it doesn't reduce the pressure that the heater core gets.

the one infotech showed in pic is the same as mine...so does it matter if i have put it on back the front on that line? in other words, i installed mine upside down for clearances...it should still be ok and work shouldnt it?

Yep. The RN85 heater tap stayed when I did the conversion to the 1GGZE.

The water comes from the cabin to the left of the photo/engine, travels to the front of the engine via hose and metal pipe and then back out from the rear, which is the hose on the right, through the tap and all over again.

    Cheers,

    Peter

I think I should clarify what I just said - I read it again and it is not clear.

As the photo stands it's right. The water goes through the tap in the direction of the arrow into the cabin and the heater, and comes back out through a hose down and to the left of the photo, back around and up through the U-bend hose you see on the right, through the tap, which is activated by moving the heater slider to the right on the dash, opening the tap.

If you have it upside down, can you still open the heating? As long as the water is travelling in the right direction you will be OK.

    Cheers,
