    Default AE82 Fan/Aircon problem

Hey guys, got an AE82 twinky that im trying to sort out why the fans are not turning on. I can hear the relays working in the kick panel on the passenger side and have tested the fuse there was well as testing the fuses for the aircon in the fuse box and everything seems fine there. Basically when using the aircon control panel and going through the different fan speeds all i can hear is relays clicking, but no fans turning on. Anyone have some ideas so i can troubleshoot it and fix it, last thing that needs to be done before its good for sale so any help would be much appreciated!

Stuffed fan as the relays wouldn't switch if the temp switch wasn't working!

Double check the 30A circuit breaker in the kick panel. Maybe try bypassing the two terminals briefly to see if it starts to work. If that doesn't do it you probably need a new heater fan (a mate's twinky had the exact same problem last week).

I have the exact same problem.

I have read somewhere that when the AC runs out of gas it can stop the AC but im assuming the Fan would still work???

When the AC runs out of gas, compressor operation will be inhibited but the heater fan will still work. If you're adventurous you could just whip the fan out and bench test it.
Theres 3, 8mm bolts but the rear ones a bit of a prick to get to.

    Cheers

yeah the fan is a real whore 2 get off.
In the kick panel it is a 10A fuse, ive tested it and its still fine, i can try bridging it temporarily but dont know what good that'll do if the fuse is fine.
When i had a friend re-gas my old man's car i got him to check mine as well and he said the gas was fine.
Any other ideas would be much appreciated hehe

The circuit breaker is a round black thing with two spade terminals on it, inside that kick panel.

hi ... I have the same car as well ... I've been through the problem before. 1. the fuse is gone 2.the fan is gone. If it is a fuse then it could be easily done. If it is the fan then you might need to change it which is not that hard anyway. I wouldn't think its any other cause rather than this 2. Hope this would help

unplug and hook the fan straight up to the battery - if it works, then its the temp switch, which if you post a pic, i can show u where it is.

tested the circuit breaker in the kick panel which on my AE82 is a 20A unit and that is fine.
The fan is an absolute joke to get out, the rear 8mm bolt isnt accessible without a longer 8mm spanner which i dont have haha
can you describe where the temp switch is? i may be able to get at it without taking the whole fan out, the car is driving me insane, just want 2 burn it 2 the ground lol >.<

I just check my circuit breaker. Its the circle thing above the 10/15a blade fuse.

It was gone. Bridged it, now works.

    WOOHOO.

Now to see if AC stil works?

you dont need to take the fan out, just disconnect the wires and try with two bits of wire to hook it up to the battery - if it works, you know its the temp switch.
The temp switch is in the thermostat housing, or the RHS top radiator hose as you look from the front of the car. It has a round plug on it, with one wire.

He's talking about the heater fan under the dashboard, not the engine cooling fan so the temp switch in the thermostat housing is unrelated.

But yes, you can run some wire to the heater fan to test it.

yeah i meant the heater fan which as pure in sanity said is under the dash board, i can probably try running 2 long ass pieces of wire to the battery, will test it 2morrow morning, wish the circuit breaker or fuse had gone, be a lot easier 2 fix!
