    Unhappy 22re dilemmas

Well as of this week the rona has been a sad car, on saturday I took it to have a new exhaust fitted to replace the section with a hole in it ready for rego.

Now driving it back from there it was fine.

It then copped 200mm of rain on it over the weekend and on Monday morning was running very weird.

Took longer to start, and if you plant your foot it just stops accelerating and slowly reduces speed, lift off and at light throttle applications it'll accelerate but its a very slow and feels like you are pushing through a much denser object then air.

I took it for a decent drive Monday night thinkign that possibly some water got into the dizzy which has happen before and a good thrashing would dry it out. It was getting better, then I got my neighbour who services the car to come for a quick lap of the block.

All symptoms disappeared after another 5 mins so we thought all was good but he'll service it next week anyway for rego.

Anyway yesterday the same shit again in the morning and night, it gets slightly better the longer you drive it but its very ill.

My neighbour suggested two possible options that it could be either water in the dizzy or when they put the new exhaust on a baffle has come loose and its causing a massive restriction somewhere but even he said it shouldn't get better like it does and thats only normally a flat spot not the restriction on start up where it will barely pull 2000rpm.

The car free revs fine and there isn't really any sound suggesting something is knocking in the engine. For the time being its parked waiting to go into my neighbours shop, but if there any quick thing I can check throw me some ideas

Does it have an oxygen sensor?? WD40 or similar around the throttle position sensor, AFM electrics, anywhere where theres an electrical plug... definitely sounds like an electrical problem... and being that it magically happened after rain, sounds like theres water in there somewhere. Doesnt sound like it was the exhaust, as it was fine to drive home. Did you drive it in the rain, or was it just sitting in the weather??

    "hey axel... ehh ehh ehh"

Yeah, just dry that shit out. Very unlikely its an exhaust thing.

Just sat out in the street in pouring rain over the weekend, definately something engine related not the gearbox.

I'll check the leads and dizzy tonight and then see if that helps any, oh well just a good excuse to drive the supra

The jack well is full of water and it leaks in somewhere in both front guards. The only issue with this before was it hitting the relay for the aircon/fans in the left side of the passenger footwell and then frying it, that has since been ghetto wrapped and water can't effect it anymore .

I've never had an issue with engine related electrics because of rain before, my uncle got water in the dizzy when cleaning the engine bay before I bought it but it rain different then to now, then it wouldn't start or idle and blew plumes of smoke.

Now it starts and idles perfectly but on the road it runs like a hairy goat.

Do I need to repeat my WD40 statement?? You probably have a condensation issue... the engine electrics get warm when running... park it and the extra humidity in the air from the rain will condensate on the electrics, causeing them to do amazingly stupid things... just think of the fogging you get on your windscreen when it rains and is hot... fogs more then than when its dry and cold.

My 22RE does something similar... misfires etc after it's been raining.

As we're in the biggest drought QLD has ever seen it hasn't bothered me until now, but it's been raining for a couple of days now and I'll have to get onto it too.
