Go to Toyota and they may be able to tell you when the car has been made... they told me with my half cut by the chassis number
Cheers.
Hi,
There remains a mystery to the age of my car and, from what I understand, the age of other imported AW11s.
It's been assumed that my AW is an '86 model but I recently noticed that seat belts have '88 tags on them, which is a bit weird. I can't check the build stamps on plastic panels as the previous owner changed the interior to a later model, but he (wiso) tells me he didn't touch the seatbelts.
Now I would normally just put my VIN through a checker but I don't have the standard 17 digit VIN. My car is registered in NSW under an 11 digit JDM VIN (AW11009####) and I've searched the web and Toymods painstakingly for any information but not much has come up relative to an 11 digit VIN.
I hope this makes sense.
Can anybody cast some light over deciphering an 11 digit VIN? Or even provide me with the link to a thread detailing this?
Thanks heaps.
Dylan

The date of manufacture should also be printed on the spark plug leads.
(At least for the engine)

Jealousy is a curse
seatbelts have ADR tags on them? ie, pulled from aussie AW11 to pass compliancing when brought in?

You know what, I never thought of that. Although I would've thought the Jap belts would've passed ADRs? Maybe the original ones were a little shagged when the car was imported in 2001.

depends on which engineer you ask.. i think to the letter of the law the jap ones dont pass. however most engineers will pass them assuming they are in safe and suitable condition.
