    Default 2jz waterpump/fan onto 1jz

Well im just about to put the 1j in the soarer, it still has the stock hydraulic fan on there, and well i want to remove it.

I read that u use the 2jzgte parts and it all bolts on...
i found this on a US site... parts needed and part numbers.
    Water pump assy. - 16100-49845
    Fan pulley - 16371-46020
    Fluid coupling assy - 16210-46030
    Fan - 16361-46060
    Thermostat - 90916-03093

Just wanna make sure the part numbers are the same and if anyone has done this themselves and can gimme an idea of how much it costs and if they recommend i do it or just keep the hydraulic one on there untill it starts leaking...

So... who's done it, any input?

    Chris

good luck setting up another fan solution that is as effective as the hydro fan. That thing seriously shifts alot of air.

Agreed, you should keep the hydro fan if at all possible, it works extremely well.

If you really want to get rid of it though, forget about buying a new clutch fan - I priced it when I did my 2JZ conversion and it cost a fortune. Most people who do this use electric fans with the 2JZ pump, which is what I ended up doing.

    Fan pulley alone is $200.

There is some nice tech here already about how to keep the hydro and run an aftermarket ECU (I presume that's why you want to get rid of it?) - perhaps have a little read of that stuff?

    Agree with above.

Additional note for you Chris: While the 2jz pump is rather cheap from toyota (~$120 from memory) the pulley does not come with it, and costs almost the same amount! So if you end up getting the 2j pump with thermos find someone who has a pulley (like me) and take it to a machinist to mill a new one up for you, will cost around $50 (less than half a genuine toyota one).

or buy a billet steel one from me for $85 + postage. The $50 machining + materials sounds too good to be true .

Considering the hydro fan has nothing to do with the engine ecu thats quite an easy thing to do.

Is this true for the 2JZ or just the 1JZ? I don't recall seeing a fan control module in my Aristo front cut, although it has been over 3 years so I could be wrong...

Well, its true for all 1UZ's.
Fan ECU is separate to Engine ECU, but I've only dealt with pre 1995 1UZ's

Its possible that it became intergrated at some stage (would make a lot more fucking sense)

thanks for the input guys, i guess ill keep it for now then, basically i heard that later in life the hoses etc will have a tendancy to leak. As such i was considering chucking in a thermo instead or something similar. Anyways, i guess it can stay if i have room for it. And no i wont be running aftermarket management.

Hoses can be fixed for a lot less than the cost of new thermo's.
That is providing you catch the leak and don't let the system run dry and root the pump

hydro fan!!!! they work really really well burnouts for ever and it would stay cool.............

untill the fkR failed then it was absolute caos!!!!!!!! my fan seized, buit presure as the thing was stuck.... and as the cooler for it runs through the rad guess what exploded inside the rad, then guess what went in every part of the engine that water flowed through and then caused the rad to break open at the bottom, and of course being like everyone of our cars here it done it at a really bad place at an even worse time!!!! dewd buy some 10" or a 16" SPAL fan and be done with it they move as much air as anything..... but only buy SPAL brand they are awsome!!!!
