Hi People,
I have a few dumb questions.
How does the toyota V8 compare to their V12?
Is their V12 obtainable or is it too expensive?
How good are the STD components of the V8 (can it rev to 7500rpm or more)
Is the 5.0L V8 just a bored out 5.0L variant?
Reason: thinking of moding a BMW E30
Thanks.

The 1UZ V8 is very easy to get a hold of, but is only four litres compared to the five litres of the V12.
The number of cylinders means little, it's the capacity that's important.
There's a five litre Toyota V8 coming out soon (1GR) though it'll be expensive for a long time. It got no common parts with the UZ series.
The stock UZ's are very strong and will run to 7500rpm no probs. They cannot be bored out to five litres, though with a stroker kit they'll come close I think. There's a 4.7 litre UZ that's a better starting point for that.

Bill,
The GR series is the V6.
The UR series is the new V8
1UR is 4.6L
2UR is 5.0L
and I *think* the new 5.7L is the 3UR (285kW, 530Nm)

The 4.7 UZ may be what i am thinking about (not 5.0L). I have seen landcrusers thathave a bigger V8 --> must be the 4.7.
Thanks for the reply.
Biggest UZ is 2UZFE = 4.7L V8?

the 2UZ is a 4.7 I thinketh
The Toyota V12 is the 1GZ-FE, and there's probably less than half a dozen of them in the country at the moment - so unless you're very patient and/or have deep pockets, forget about this option.
The 1UZ-FE as mentioned is cheap and responds very well to forced induction, so if you're after big power this is a pretty good way to go.

there's also a guy who has done the supra 2jz-gte into an E30 BMW, so that could be another consideration (depending on the sort of feel you're after)

Those specs are wrong...
Displacement, cc 4663
Engine model 2UZ-FE
Max.power (Net), kw/rpm 172.84 kw / 4800 rpm (~230hp)
Max.torque(Net), Nm/rpm 421.69 Nm / 3600 rpm
Stock or near stock 2UZ would not be a good choice for a transplant as it is designed for low rpm, high torque (low power) use and is cast iron (read: heavy) to boot
Only makes sense if you are building a hi-po high boost engine as Cowboy Bebop is in the States
The all-alloy 4 litre 1UZ, 1UZ VVti or maybe 4.3 litre 3UZ (if you can get one) would be a smarter choice, and can still take decent levels of boost if you want to go that way
To really simplify things, go for the later UZ's for n/a use (post 1995), and the earlier UZ's (pre 1995) for forced induction use
