perhaps i should rephrase it once again.
"has anyone seen this filter on a motor vehicle of some description be it aftermarket or factory, and can remember which make/model/year it was?"

Does it have a part number on it? If so, a ryco catalogue has a cross reference section you can use to find a matching filter, and/or a parts shop may be able to let you know what it fits.

I think your guess of mf5 is correct. See how it has all the different angles the fuel line can be connected on?its a universal model.

All the 5M-E I have seen have been inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top...

It does look like an M series block there! Is there a reason for not fitting the normal filter for that engine / car?

    Cheers

yeh same, fitting at top adn bottom.
correct its a 7m, and i have no idea why the normal one is not there, but it would be a hassle for me to rearrange the lines to fit the one with outlets top and bottom (i bought one actually, but couldnt be arsed fitting it)

I'm guessing that its a Ryco fuel filter as they're all made in Israel, if so it should have the part number on it somewhere. Pull it out of the bracket, the number might be hidden under it.
