    Default ignition lead insulator

yes im still messing around with my hilux haha, ive narrowed the possibilities down to "i think" its the insulator in the 1st ignition lead, a while ago it fouled the plugs from the map being that far rich it wasnt funny, but the insualtor on the bottom of the lead got stuck on the plug and the only way to get it off was to cut it off therefore making it useless so this id say is the problem.

so i replaced the plugs and all was good as the tune got better, and could start to rev the engine out, but even with the tune pretty tip top it will still foul that same plug after 250k's of driving. and when the car starts to come on to boost 3 - 4psi the car will missfire and run on 3 cylinders until i back off and will drive as normal until i come onto boost again. seen as this same plug fouls all the time i thought the injector could need a clean but i now think its that insualtor

any ideas, i should have thought of this along time ago but as cars go its always so easy when you find the problem.

also, is there anyway of bodgying this up just to test if it is the insualtor, or is anyone who would know certain this would be the cause....

    thanks

still foul that same plug after 250k's of driving.
this suggests the injector is sticking or flowing too much fuel.

if you think the plug lead or connector insulator is at fault, run car in the dark (e.g. no lights anywhere at all) with bonnet up (use the handbrake + clutch to put a bit of load on engine if needed) and look for arcing.

yes i know, i thought fuel to, until i thought about this insualator and the fact that it feels like a 1st fuel cut or misfiring and now that we've stuffed around with dwell etc etc to dwindle down the possibilities, but if the injector was flowing a bit much you would think it would still run half decent, but the engine turns to shit as spark needs to be at its strongest.?

too much fuel and you'll wet the plug so it wont arc and the next event it'll leave carbon coating everywhere and the next spark event has to cope with the build up and ... yadda yadda ...

my RA40 has 4agze injectors and on high boost/rpm where i havn't tuned it, it pops and stumbles like a drunken kerbab eater (overfuelling in the fuel table and rising-rate FPR). Is amazing how an AFR of about 10:1 will kill a spark.

I've seen grey/black clouds behind the car plus annoyed more than a few kenmore residents by the car doing loud exhausts pops on boost late at night while tuning the car.

edit: cliff's A28 HKS+carbi 18RG chews thru plugs when it's rich. Fowling from off-boost driving making it miss when on boost.
