always wondered what a diff jig was, good stuff +rep
i thought rt142's had F series IRS?? are you taking out the IRS or is that the old bog warmer sitting there? As if its IRS, its virtually the same as an MA61...i was looking at doing a ford 9" if the JAG irs doesnt work....
THE OFFICIAL TOYMODS BOGAN
MA61 - sunroof., 7MGTE, 4.11 lsd, w58
MA61 - Built 2JZ, 9" diff, big brakes -1st car + the toy
LN167 - dual cab fourbie, gu patrol chassis + suspension/ driveline, built 1.5jz
I have an aussie rt142 avante so it has the borg warner diff. The jap version has the IRS. Whats wrong with your f-series? Are you having troubles with it behind the 302?

shitloads of wheelspin for starters, just cant get the power down....Not to mention i want to supercharge it in an attempt to run a quickish time...and lets face it, the MA61 IRS aint the best for doing that....Originally Posted by Pube
thats weird man, every other rt142 ive seen has been IRS....thats what gearset resides in my MA61 LSD - 3.58 set out of a manual IRS rt142....avante i think. Does the bog warmer diff use the same mount points as an IRS version?

ive seen a few RT142 live axles with disk brake.
they are the same diff as the ST141 avante
the mounting points bewteen the IRS and live axle RT142 are waaaaaaaaay different
hello
Pube,
Have you found out yet whether your careful welding succeded in stopping the tubes from bending.
I'd love to know
Cheers.

there were aussie spec coronas RT142's and jap spec. I know when it comes to the Avante's the jap ones had a blue interior, different factory wheels, IRS and the wiring was a little bit different. The Aussie ones had a brown interior, borg warner live axle and different wheels again. There are a few other diffs but only veryminor. The floorpan at the rear is completely different between the live and the IRS versions so you cant swap the rearend between them. Aussie Avantes also had rear disk brakes on the borg warner diff which are the same rea brakes as commodores had.
Havent got the diff to the diff shop to swap the centres over and new bearings so I dont know if it warped yet. Ill keep you all informed.

sorry to dig up an oldish thread here but i was just wondering how you lined up centre in the stock diff on the jig? on the lux diff you use that plate that bolts to the face but how did you work that out to be centre? if that makes sense![]()
Thanks,

I did some measuring from each end of the diff housing to find the centre of the housing. I did this both with the hilux diff and the borg warner diff. Then I measured the position of the pinion in relation to the centre of the housing. From memory the hilux was about 2 inch off centre to the drivers side and the borg warner was about 1 inch offset to the dirvers side. When I welded the mounts, I set up both diffs on the gig both in relation to the housing centre line. Even though the hilux pinion is an inch further over, both axle tubes are equal length. If I was to compensate for the extra inch and move the housing back over to the centre so both diffs would have the pinions in the same location, that would make the hilux axle tube stick out a further inch to the passenger side. To overcome this problem , the axle tube needs to be shortened on the passenger side. I can live with the pinion being a further inch over to the diivers side but cant live with one wheel sticking out firther than the other. Hope this makes sense!!
On another note, I took my housing to get looked at while the getting the truetrac fitted and the axles re-studded. Even with my careful welding, the housing is a bit bent. You cant really get around this problem, there is a fair bit of welding to be done. The diff place put the housing on a large lathe and spun it so I could see what was going on so they wernt going to be just taking my money. In the end it will cost me $250 to straighten the housing. Peace of mind that it will be spot on though![]()
