Default The making of a diff jig - PROGRESS

I will be making a diff jig to transfer my mounts from my RT142 borg warner diff to a G series Hilux diff. Im thinking about making the jig adjustable, so I could use the jig for other cars such as celica, corolla, sprinter etc. To make this worth while, would others out there be interested in me transferring their mounts to a desired diff? There would be some cost involved, again to make it worth while, but not as much as diff shops charge. If there is not much interest, ill just make a jig to suit my diff which will turn out to be simpler. I have the equipment such as a MIG, plasma cutter and a quality drop saw to make the jig and transfer the mounts. Anyone interested? Im located in SW sydney.

Hopefully it will be spot on. Basically I will put the diff to be cut in the jig and be located id say by the pinion or a square surface, the diff would then be secured. The mounts would be all attached to the jig by steel bars so when thy are cut by the plasma cutter (nice clean quick cut) they stay in the same position in relation to the pinion. The old diff is removed and new one installed into the jig. mounts are welded and jig removed. When I make the jig and perform this on my own diff ill take some holiday snap shots of the process.

    Fixed....

Mr Pube - pencil me in champion. Beer, wiring, assistance, pestering and sometimes money are my preferred forms of payment.

When are you looking at doing this? I have everything ready and waiting to go.

how good are you with the welder? if youre pretty good id be intersted as i have a mig and can weld alright but for a diff i would want it spot on so would rather someone whos better.

also, how about fabricating lower control arm mounts so you can make the point adjustable save getting traction brackets, thats what i have on my e-series atm.

It will be happening in the next few weeks. I need to do the diff convesion to finish off my car. I guess in the long run, getting some adjustable lwr control arm brackets would be a good idea, but for now ill keep it standard cuz I wana get my car on the road. I can weld ok/good, but if thats a concern I guess the brackets could be tacked in place and they could get welded by someone with some sort of qualification. The actual welding is the easy bit, getting the brackets in the right place is the fiddly part.

Pubey - you might want to get your hands on a Hilux diff housing so that you can see if you can set up your jig to take both F and G series diffs.

The G varies a bit from the F housing, so its worth taking note before going ahead.
