Default Please make old threads a different icon

I find it very annoying - just like the old forum - to not have the threads that you've already seen (even if you've cliked on them or not) the same type/colour as the other threads.
I'd really like to have threads that were there previous to your current visit have a different icon/colour so you know what you've looked and what you haven't.
I think it's an option in this forum's software, so it wouldn't be hard to enable.

Bill they are, unread threads are in bold, ones you have read are not bold.

Bill if you have read all of the posts in a thread then the icon for it will be a closed envelope and the title will be in normal font.

If there is a thread that has posts in it that you haven't read the icon will be an open envelope and the title will be in bold.

Yeah Bill It would be nice to keep track of things.

The closes thing that can be done is at the bottom of the front main forum there is a Button Marked "Mark all forums read" That I click when leaving the forums for that visit. that way only new posts appear in red. I'd like that to happen when ever you leave a section much like the old forums did.

    You're missing Bill's point too.
He wants a way of differentiating threads that he's looked at before. Not threads that he's looked at since the last post has been made....
If he looks at a thread, he wants it to be permanently displayed in a different colour whether there are new posts or not.
This can be done by tweaking the theme. But I think it could lead to much confusion.

Quite a bit less I reckon.
To give a good example, the exact thing I mean is used on the very same software on www.performanceforums.com
You know what you've looked at, what's new, what's old, etc.
    It's dead easy.

On the topic of icons, can we drop the 'hot thread' icon?
    Its really a pointless thing.

Surely dropping that and then doing what Bill wants will solve the possible confusion.

I agree with Bill... this system of new/old threads like the old forum had isnt good.

As soon as a forum is viewed, all the threads should be marked as read... the standard VBB way.

That is how it was configured origonally and there were a heap of complaints about it then.

    Actually im not supprised
If this is the only forum people visit, they would be used to this way from the old forums.
So far i havnt come across a forum anywhere else that does it this way.

I guess it wont be changed now either... oh well

Would be nice if we could have a "mark all as read" button though (i think the old forums had this??).

It's there, it's just hidden in the Forums Tools.

    Ah, THAT helps a lot!
Thanks for pointing that out - I looked for it before but obviously not hard enough.

The thing with the marking visited links as a different colour is simply an option in the CSS. It goes like a:visited or similar. I can dig it up if you want, maybe just change this to a lighter hue by say 0x20 on each. Thatll be enough to differentiate but not enough to distract.
