    Default 7mgte Turbos, flanges, terminology, oh my!

    Ive done some googling and searching on these forums for clear explainations on what the following is and does, but all I have got so far is a lot of convoluted responses from somewhat dubious sources. So hopefully through this thread those who are more knowledgable will be able to help.

    Example A - Turbos with "t3" and "t4" flanges, what does this actually mean and how does that affect the "bolt on" ability of a turbo. Heres an example of an advert for a turbo "Has T3 flange to fit most cars Intake Inducer 57MM Exhaust is 63MM A/R .5 COMP EFF 77% Internal gate" How do I know if that will bolt onto my exsisting manifold for the CT26 i currently have there.
    Q : Does the type of flange determines if it will bolt into the exsisting holes?
    Q : The intake and exhaust sizes (57mm and 63mm respectively) does that relate to the connecting intake piping and exhaust housings?
    Q : Would a new dump pipe need to be fashioned for such an upgrade?
    Forgive the terminiology I have used here, its very confusing for me and if I have used something incorrectly, PLEASE let me know!

    Q : With the boost/fuel cut on the 7m, does a piggy back computer negate this or is this controlled by the wastegate when it detects certain boost, or by the ecu when it detects the 11psi at fuel cut?

    nothing garrett (t2,t3, t4 gt30, etc etc) will bolt onto your ct26 manifold, youll need an adaptor or a new manifold, the bolt pattern etc changes with different branded or sized turbo's.

    the sizes they are talking about are wheel sizes inside the turbo, no it doesnt effect anything that bolts onto the turbo, it only effects the way it spools boost and how much power it can make...

    a new dump pipe would be needed for any turbo bar a ct26.

    the ecu controls it, you can buy a fuel cut defended to elimnate the boost cut.....

    you can get your existing turbo hi-flowed for around $1500 i think

    im in two minds to high flow, sure its less fab work, but for over a grand, mays well spend that bit extra and upgrade the whole unit, thats my thinking.

    That said im going to wait till i get my dyno tune this week with stock everything + safc2 and those ball bearing boost valves set at 10psi, might be happy with what i have got ;-)

    from what materials should this adapter be made from, i have access to tools and metal so I could fabricate something along those lines. Im lead to believe u can buy adapters is this correct?

    I suggest steel.

    mild, stainless, cast are all good bets IMO.

    ah so no prefabed shit is avaiable

    so short of making an adaptor, or getting a 2nd hand manifold from *somewhere* the stock ct26 + high flow is the only option?

    He means flange plate (ie; if you wanted to make a new manifold and fit a ct26), not adaptor. Ive seen adaptors to T4 flange on ebay quite a few times

    So to fit a range of "popular" turbos, i need a t3 or t4 adapter kit either made or bought from ebay?

    If I get one however theres no guareentees this bigger turbo would fit in the bay would it, thats why people make mainifolds isnt it, to mount them lower in the bay so they can fit?

    most premade manifolds will fit in an MA70 or MZ20, if your 7M is in anything else it's a bit hard to say

    sorry should of said, the car is a stock 7m mz20 87 model.

    The manifolds should fit, disturbed1 put one in his MZ20. They only come in T4 flange though, but then again so do most cheapy turbos (most smaller garrett GT series are T3 up to GT35R, most everything else is T4)
