I don't think I've ever seen such universal agreement about something on Toymods before - sounds like GT35R with 1.06 housing it is - and mild steel IC piping with a coating (might just powder coat rather than HPC). Might go ext gate too.

    Thankyou all!

Turbo(s) - can't beat the factory set up (especially while it's puffing oil up Mt Victoria Pass) - make it fit damnit!!

Cooler plumbing - used stainless, because friend owed me a favour, had surplus material and had a dad that happens to be a kick ass tig welder. The inside of the welds can develop excess material that in some cases can come off and end up in the engine (if the welder is poorly skilled - so I'm told).
If I were to do it again, I'd use alum over mild steel - I'm happy to do all the design/cutting/puzzling myself and get someone to weld it.

As happy as I would be running the standard turbos, there just isn't the room Mos. Take yourself back to Rod's MS53 wagon and look at the dramas trying to get an exhaust manifold to fit. Now reuce that gap by 10mm and make the exhaust stick out by another 20mm - just not going to happen. I could go to the great expense of making a custom manifold to run the twins out of the way of the steering box, but I figure I'm better off selling the stock turbos to finance the upgrade.

Consults the spreedsheet in search of answers... computing.

Garrett T61 (hey it's a bit old school, but fits the bill, and I like it becaue it's a 7 blade compressor)

or the smallest of the Garrett GT40 series the GT4082, it's wheels is ever so slightly smaller than the GT3582R's (58/82 GT4082 vs 61.4/82 GT3082R) it's cheaper because it's not BB and it has the required Twin entry T4 flange. check out www.turbobygarett.com for more details. This would be my pick for what you've mentioned. The 1.06 T3 exhaust housing on the GT35R flows about 1lbs/min more than the twin entry 0.94 T4 exhaust housing. Prices range form $1100-1255AUD much better than the ~$1900 you'd pay for a GT3582.

Since you're buying Ebay manifolds, you're no doubt looking for a cost effective solution.

I'm stuggling to find a T04Z priced below $2000AUD the HKS version if over $3000?? This turbo is also much larger than the GT4082. At $1100 is't not bad value for a turbo that could easily push 300rwKW out of a 2JZ-GTE

please inlighten me as to where to find cheap T04Z's (that's arn't off rotaries)

    Cheers

im using a 44mm Tial on mine.

Avoid the eBay ones, i've seen a few pulled apart with diaphrams ripped apart. They are an Overboost waiting to happen.

You could possibly get away with a 38mm.

The HKS clone eBay wastegates are all good once you put a decent diaphragm in them. Or if you don't want to stuff around, Tial are good and not too stupidly expensive.

Dave: I went with a Turbosmart 48mm Progate... cost me around $700 from memory, and I've read nothing but good reports.
I have heard a bad one or two about the ebay ones, so I steered clear.

Im unsure of its performance yet as stradlater seems to have probs with his sticking and mine is starting to produce similar symptoms!!!

It is brand new and not an ebay job just seems to get stuck every now and again !!

Im currently testing it to see EXACTLY WTF is going on ....IE is it the way i have it setup or not.

    Will keepyou posted.

I'd actually read that people had their (genuine) tial gates stick - hence I went turbosmart.
Would have loved HKS, but couldn't justify double the price
