Oil in turbo comp cover

OK this might be a no brainer but here goes. Had to pull my intake pipe off to re-fit an intercooler hose that blew off and noticed oil (quite clean and fresh) sitting in the intake of the turbo comp cover, in the snout, like a dribble and in one of the radial intakes ( it has one of thouse shrouded comp covers) its a GT35R, I dont have PCV hooked up so it cant be that. Mechanic did oil the filter (quite liberaly) so possibly its some of this oil or if not turbo seals? Not sure how prone ball bearing turbo are to letting go but after the intercooler hose came off (one on comp cover) well it was half off and car could still make some boost but I just babied it home (advantages of map sensors!) at low rpm. Is it possible when the hose blew off and when I had discovered this on full throttle the turbo has oversped and shit itself? Might be a dumb question, I'm choosing to believe its the oil in the filter lol, when the turbo seals let go where do you normally see the oil anyway? Resson I didnt re-fit hose on spot was I figured its only half off so should be OK to drive GENTLY, its right next to the exhaust manifold so wasnt in the mood for third degree burns, was getting dark and didnt have time to pull it apart and wait for it to cool down

Its not abnormal to have a little bit of oil there.. especially if the 'normal' operating conditions change.. eg.. there was no back-pressure on the seals at the time and the turbo was working pretty hard.. (spinning hard anyway) i'd stick it back together and try not to worry about it..

Thanks for the reply. I drove the thing home at like 2000rpm hardly any throttle so figured that would not make it work or spin very hard at all, but the moment it let go would not have been good for it I'm sure. if its a problem its just the excuse I need to strip it and put the T-04Z comp wheel in it. I dont think the ball bearing cores are rebuildable if the seals are gone?

everythings rebuildable its just a matter of money.. from what i understand they are more expensive than plain bearings but if its a 'name' brand turbo there shouldn't be a problem..

i'd just chuck it back together and see what happens.. if it starts blowing weed.. oh well. need to do it..

Yeah its all back together, will take it for a drive tomorrow and see what happens I guess

Took it for a blast and so far all good, even at 20psi

So where does your Pcv goe then if it's not hooked up?

When I say not hooked up I mean it doesnt go back into the intake, instead it goes into a catch can

just to a filter ??? naughty naughty polluting our fine atmosphere

Its actually a cottees cordial container in sitting in the bumper, I used to run a Bi-Lo distilled water bottle but had to upgrade.
