    Default better/bigger clutch for 2T ot 3T

well im running a brand new stocko 3t size flywheel cluch and pressure plate on the back of my 3t i built in the ke20 and the pressure plate is just not up to the power its slipping already and its only been like 2 or 3 months now since its been new, its all ajusted right and that, just not strong enough.

so looking at goin bigger in size or a better clutch plate like a 5 finger one? and heavier pressure plate to fix?

any one had the same trouble, can't tell ya what power im putting out yet as havent got i dynoed yet.

can ya get a bigger cluch that will fit in a ta22 T5 bellhousing?

whats a 3TG-TE one like? will that work?

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you mate. After pulling the clutch and flywheel off my 3T for my W58 i noticed how pissweak it was and definately wont withstand the power i plan on putting through it plus its not worth trying. Keep in mind this is probably the same flywheel as yours cause the old box was t50.

The option i'm thinking of taking is getting a custom flywheel and my mate has a used twin plate clutch he said i could have. Just need to get the flywheel drilled to suit. AFAIK i havent heard of anything being a direct bolt on replacement.

My TA22 is using a four button Exedy ceramic clutch plate. No complaints and it gets given a hard time.

I had a 3tgte clutch on my 1g and it held up sort of ok with 170kw so it should be fine for your car

but ive heard some were that the 3tgte one is a lil bigger or better? and i know for a fact that the clutch is not working well, under heavy loads and changin gears hard the pressure plate gives way

why not just use a heavy duty aftermarket one?
    xtreem, exedy/daiken, centreforce etc...
at about $230 a full clutch kit its well worth it, and all new!

in some cases of different clutch kit stages the pressure plate is the same and only the friction plate changes from organic round all the way up to 3 puck etc.

most aftermarket pressure plates will be 30% to 70% more pressure.

else maybe look into the crown friction plate / holden pressure plate combo, its for
    2tg but may be suitable.

yeah whats the go with the crown/holden combo? as if it will fit a 2TG it will work on a 2T and a 3T also.

well i went to the clutch place today and you can get a modified pressure plate for a 3T that its 30% more clamping pressure any one thing that will be alot better? he said for the kit it found be around $300, sound ok to me, and then for a aftermarket 5 finger it was another $300 on top so around $600 for a after market one

i also found out that a 2T cluch is 190mm and a 3T one is 200mm so just a lil bigger

ive heard about the crown/holden combo anyone got any info on that is it a diameter increase?
the 3TGTE flywheel runs bigger clutch but not sure it fits in a T50 bellhousing (normaly in a W50)

Try talking to Meridian Motor sports or Alloy Race Components as I have found them to be helpfull but anything decent won't be cheap. I am running a brass paddle type disc with a TRD pressure plate behind my 20v and find it has low pedal effort and can take heaps of pounding.

As far as I have experienced the difference in sizes are the contact surface/plate diameters.
The pressure plates are also different only in outer diameter, again of the contact surface, but use the same housing and therefore bolt on the flywheel the same.

The extra clamping ability of the 3T-GTE and the stock 2T/3T is achieved by the increase in surface area from the increase in outer diameter.

When I purchased an Exedy unit for my 2T, the Brake/Clutch Machine Shop asked if I could bring in my flywheel to check the size. It needed surfacing anyway but we found I was running the smaller 2T plate but the step was to the larger diameter ready for the larger Exedy unit.

Have the flywheel step/contact face machined to the larger diameter and you can run either size.

    Regards

    Rodger
