    Default User location information

Is it possible to have the Location under the user names to show City/Town rather than State, or even both?
Always good to know how close people are when your trying to sell to them or buy from them.

during the next couple of week's and the transition between FUD and Vbulletin forums, the board will be setting out some much clearer and more consistent rules and guidelines than what have been available in the past.

Part of this is likely to be some specifics regarding how for sale threads can be created.

However i think your suggestion has merit, for people responding to a f/sale thread, so we'll look into it.

    Thanks.

Just a thought on that idea, appart from the f/sale side of things. To which I agree.
We have read in the past "I might go if I can get a ride" followed by "where are you", or no response.
But if we can see that a member lives in the same suburb or surrounding area then you might get "ok, I'm going, do you want to ride with me".
As allways this is just a thought thrown in the blender.

Here's another thought to throw in the blender.
Random car thief comes onto the site and sees that someone owns a nice Hiace pickup that he's always wanted. Sees the suburb that it's in and starts to stake it out.

I think there are some serious security issues involved. I reckon it'd only work if it was voluntary.

Yeah thats why I think City/Town would be the go. No problem with this unless you live in a town thats the size of Dravens pee hole

I say stick with State under username.
Its fine for 99% of the time.

If you are selling something, then in that forsale thread it should be mandatory to have a closer location - West Sydney suburbs, Perth - NOR, etc.

If you want a lift for a cruise, post your location in the post where you ask for a lift.

Ok, I will not argue the logic of your thinking on that point, and I agree with it.
But don't we take that risk every time we put our vehical in a show where the general puplic can walk around them & see what they are and follow it home,
or park it in a shopping centre carpark.
    It was only a thought.

That's true. But it's like posting photos without numberplates blacked out.
Some people (like me) don't care, but some people are sensitive to it, and you've always gotta take the most cautious approach.
I like the idea, it's just that there are scum out there that can abuse it.

May I suggest that in the title of for sale threads people post their state?
    1994 MKIV Supra - NSW

Some people are already doing it but it makes it much easier to look through when there are a lot of ads (which there will be when more people join the forum).

I think having two fields would be good for location.
    State - mandatory
    Town/city optional.
