Hey guys,
I have couple questions, be great can give us a hand
I went for safety cert and got couple problems back.
But i just wanted to see if i can check this over since alot of dodgy mechanics out there.
Its AE92 sedan with Gze in it.
1. First off, he said front engine mount is split, Im not to sure where these are on fwd cars ?
I have looked at front of engine where front of engine sits on body with round bush holding to side of wheel well, I can't see anything wrong with it.
2. Front right side suspension is leaking again i can't see any leaking from it or anything sus when i push down on it.
Where would i be able to see if its leaking ?
3. Front and Rear Bump stops are missing, What are the are the rubber bushes that sit on top of your suspension im guessing ?, if so, again i had no idea how he knows their missing unless he took shocks out ?
Go back to the mechanic and ask him ( nicely ) to show you what the problems are so that you know what needs doing.

I was , but guy seem pretty damn busy and im usualy working all day what makes it hard to go back.
I would take it to pedders or somebody similair for the 28 point free safety check and see if they pick up the samethings (without mentioning it)
You can test if mounts are broken or worn. This is what I would do: Firstly get your second best mate to stand in front of your car with your bonnet open looking at the engine. Pull the handbrake up nice and tight (depends on how much you like your mate) and turn your car on. Now if its an auto, put one foot on the brake and load up the engine a bit with the other foot on the accelerator. You should be able to see the engine twisting a bit under load. If its a manual just let the clutch out slowly around the friiction point and the engine should also twist a bit. Now if you havent already run over your mate, he should be able to see if the engine is moving a litte bit or a lot when you are doing this test. If it moves a lot, id say one or more of your engine mounts are stuffed!
Just be careful if you take your car to a place like Pedders for a safety check. What ever you say, dont tell them what you 'think' wrong with the car, Just tell them somthing like you have just bought the car and want to get it all checked out and make sure its all good. That way they can to their crappy check and come back with their findings. If you go there and tell them that you think your engine mounts are stuffed and your shocks are leaking, no doubt they will come back and say YES your mounts and stuffed etc etc and they might not be in the first place! That way you dont get things replaced when they dont need replacing. If that makes any scense? I gotta go to bed...

Cheers guys, man il be sure to give that a shot
The front engine mount, is almost under the engine, at the front, on the centreline of the car. 'Tis a rubber circle within a circle, connected by a couple of rubber 'bridges". For safety sake, put the car on jack stands, and start levering around the engine/engine mount, they usually crack, so mechanic is probably right. Replace it, or get some "urethane" and fill the voids between the little "bridges", I would even do that with a new mount, considering you are running the GZE.
cheers Chuck.
