    Default 18RGEU bits that fit

Sorry to start a new thread but my other one has died and i have to have this thing on the track on the 4th november.

    just a few questions.

is 18r water pump the same ? ( cheaper and easier to buy than RGEU )

18r oil filter adaptor and filter assembly is to long and filter fouls efi manifold.does the RGEU have a different adaptor or a shorter filter.?

    thanks dale

    Hi,

    Water pumps are the same.

You can get short, stubby "sports oil filters" from Toyota which should fit.

The oil filter adapter on the RG doesnt have the centre tube that runs up the inside of the oil filter so you will need to remove that to fit the stubby oil filter.

The 18RG oil pump has a small spacer that allows slightly taller gears to fit in, thus the pump is higher volume.

Technically you should use the 18RG pump but I am pretty sure you can get away with the 18R pump OK. Is the 18RG pump badly worn?

There is also a different bolt pattern where the pump bolts to the block between early and late model 18RGs. One has two bolts and the other has three. I couldnt tell you off the top of my head if they are compatible neglecting the third bolt hole.

One of my 18RGs came had an 18R oil pump in it. the rest of the engine was misfitted too, but there weren't any signs of excessive wear.

I meant the 18RG pump, assuming you have one?!?!?

If it is not too badly worn then stick with it. However if it is stuffed then go your new 18R pump.

the bolts on the oil pump to the block don't matter, i have chopped and changed blocks and pumps between 3 and 2 bolts and they all seem to still keep pumping oil.
can't comment on 18rc pump but assuming you aren't revving the tits off of it, then one would assume there should be enough oil to get around the system.
and as has been said before about the filter, either get an 18rg(eu) oil filter assembly or just cut the middle shaft off the one you got (make sure that the filter you buy has an anti drain back valve however).
the water pumps do seem to vary slightly on the little pipe that comes out on one side, both in diameter and length, but that is the only difference i have ever seen (definately not a show stopper).
    hope this helps

The 18R oil pumps shift a hugh amount volume.! Ive seen many V8 pumps with less volume. I will have to figure out how to spin the RG pump and check pressure before i install motor. It was easy with the 18R, just a cut of screwdriver on the drill down the dissy hole..

Hmm does the RG pump have a slot in it like the the RC,If so i will check it that way before the manifold goes on..

Yep, the 18RG has the slot in the top like the 18R. The 18RG just has a short shaft with a drive gear on to enagage to the lay shaft to replace the distributor drive of the 18R.

i believe they are the same between g and c, i can't remember it was such a long time ago when i replaced all that. so your local auto parts that sells caps and thermostats for 18rc will suffice i got mine from motormate here in adelaide, with zero trouble at all
The thermostat was an 82degree one, i do remember that.

Dissy cap is the same as an 18R-C, get them from supercheap, same as rotor button.

18R-G oil pump is higher volume than 18R-C; the impeller gears are about 5mm taller thus flow a fair bit more oil. They are straight swap replacements for each other in the engine block tho.

18R-C water pump is ok to use, they are the same. There are 2 or 3 different types tho, get the one that matches your engine setup - they differ by fan type and pulley type.

Dont know difference between 18R and 18RG oil filter mounts, but I have found the oil filter mounts on my 18RG's do take the stock toyota filter
with the EFI manifold. You just have to put it on at the right angle, and for heavens sake dont use a fucking Valvoline or equally poo filter - TOYOTA ONLY!!

You can use a 2JZ oil filter on the 18RG oil filter mount - i have done this before. It's a bit shorter.

Thermostat i dunno if different to 18R.
    ...... butt scratcher?!
