Unhappy I need HELP! Auto --> manual conversion in a 2jz celsior

Serious problem. 3 clutch-packs in autobox shat themselves and quote for repair/rebuild is 2650$.

I have been waiting for an excuse to convert to manual and 2650 sounds like a good one.

I will need some help with the work and probably a LOT of advice so all is appreciated.

What problems am i likely to come up against? One i can think of is will there be enough room for the clutch assembly in a celsior?

I think i should go with a supra box (considering the 2j) but which would be best?

i dont have lots of cash so this will have to be an at-home job

How much am i looking at (realistically) to get this conversion done?

    Thanks guys

One of the main problems i could see is trying to find a clutch peddle assy that would fit in a celsior.

Other then that theres your normal like tailshaft, shifter location etc.

I think getting it done under $2650 would be a bit of a stretch depedning on how much the clutch and gearbox cost.

it doesnt have to be under 2650, its just that i dont want to spend 2650 only to end up with the same dull auto; i would rather spend that plus a bit extra to get a manual set up.

People have converted Celsiors to manual before, I think JZA80 pedal boxes can be used? Try Lextreme, I'm sure the info would be there.

The rest is pretty straightforward: fork out $3-4k for a V160 and associated bits (get a full conversion kit if you can), get a custom tailshaft made, and enjoy the 6-speed goodness.

There is a thread on this forum that might be useful that is mainly about the aristo, but im sure if you search then you might find some useful information. Also try searching outside these forums to see what you can find (especially Japanese sites which you can translate later).

For anyone interested, i took some measurements for the V160 from some page i managed to google, measured it up to the auto. (Almost) the exact same dimensions!
The bellhousing is a little wider (about 15mm) in the 6 speed but other than that, the measurements are either smaller or (in the case of bellhousing to output shaft) exactly the same.
Hopefully this means the conversion will be a little easier ::fingers crossed::
I wonder where the shifter will end up though...

Okay then, ive come up against the biggest problem so far on which this entire operation rests; wtf can i get a 6 speed? Sydney toyota can get one but i dont wanna pay the 10k that i need for it. Anybody have a place that might have them? Ive emailed all sorts of places and mostly they just cringe

Try www.supraforums.com.au in the WTB section. Put up a post and somebody will chime in.

The guy who runs SupraForums has an import business (Rampant Performance Imports) and he gets 6-speed conversion kits in fairly regularly, so try contacting him.
