    thats UGLY.
will hold until somthing else brakes,
i would have tuned the wire speed down a touch and gone for a nicer weld,
Also give the welder a rest regularly maxpower will cause it to warm up as it does it will get less efficent and give you less power

dont mig weld that diff it wont hold, you need to arc weld it using 29/9 rods at 100 to 120 amps, these are couple of euro per rod but weld will not break, i used these rods when i worked in a stone quarry they were used to weld the machinery when it cracked, 29/9 rods are dissimmilar metal rods & are the biz, best of luck.

and all of them copped an absolute flogging

admittedly the commodore was a road car...but a commodore...so who cares

the other two were full trailer whore track only cars...whats the difference between a spool and a weldy for the track?

it will be interesting to see the amount of penetration those welds actually have - your first (and only) breakage will tell

Are you going to use the bearings currently in that housing?

wisdom suggests you should warm the cast stuff up before welding - i've even heard of centers being filled with lead, the unit heated up with propane torch and then arc'd up - but other folks find welding cast-iron easy-as... proper fabricators would have better opinion than me.

What current were you welding at? and gas or gasless wire?

looks crappy but theres heap of penno to a point were it allmost one metal part i was thinking about chucking some steel in the center on the spiders and cuting sick with the weld over it but i've been told it's massively over kill

i gave it a nice warm up with the mapp gas trouch then went trigger happy with it

i am using a mig gas as for the current i dont know all i know is my mate set it up so i havent got a clue it's got more knobs and switchs then anything i've seen it's bigger then me this welder just about

and i carnt be arsed paying 2k for a cusco for the f series right now so the boc center will do for now

looks like a good budget upgrade to a track car to me. It may break but then you will know what to do next time.

Lets face it we all learn as we go. I still dont think its going to break for quite a while.

Next time you do it drop a chuck of steel in the middle and fill it up around it. Heat it up before you start welding and let it cool as slow as possible.
That may hold fine or it may last 5 min you never know that's why I'd be making sure with some more meat in it.

Also make sure the gears are clean before it turns.
