im running Mobile 5W enigne oil in mine and have been for years, quite a number of other people i know are running similar 5w or 0w enigne oils in there quite successfully.
I hear that you can still get The Ginuwine toyota oil for the sc12 and (i assume) sc14.
How much is it?
And, i'm guessing, there would be a cheaper option out there. What might that be?
Thanks

sounds a bit thin but i guess if it works for you without problems why not.
I used gearbox oil as it is just a couple of gears.
gearbox oil is way too thick.. if you look at the toyota oil is is incredibly thin. very similar to a 0w engine oil.
is it particularly expensive? or is it just the 5w-30 stuff you find at mobil servos?
and how often do you need to change it?
you can get supercharger oil from Holden for bugger all $$$
...... butt scratcher?!
iirc the toyota service schedule says to "inspect" the oil every 60,000km but never gives a change schedule ?!?!? check that i could be wrong.
ive changed mine each time ive pulled the SC out just as its most convenient then. and the mobil oil costs about $18/L and you use about half of stuff all (130ml)
as has been said, supercharger oil from holden is easy to come by. just drop by your nearest dealership and pick some up.

so oils is, in fact, oils...
the holden stuff would be in rather large vats, wouldn't it?
edit
typical..Michael,
It is available for $30.00 for a 120ml bottle.
We do not keep it on the shelf however plenty of stock around Adelaide if we need to get some.

at $30 id be buying a 1L bottle of Mobil 0W or 5W and enjoy many many oil chnages![]()
Im using Mobil 5W in mine and as far as I know its doing its job fine....
Go to a chemist and ask for their biggest plastic syringe (will cost about $1) and then go to an aquarium shop to buy a length of hose to stick on it (about another $1.50) so you can draw oil out and refill through the dipstick hole. When I got my syringe they only had 10 or 15ml ones left and I found the nozzle on it is so small it took a while and a decent effort to squirt the oil back out of it again...I believe you can buy a syringe that is as big as 100ml....

edit: actaully one bit of advice.
when you fill it up squirt one syringe full inthen before you remove the hose just draw the syringe back a shade this draws the overpressure air back out of the crank case preventing it from "burping" back and spraying a bit of oil around.. just a way to keep things cleaner.
I've used the holden supercharger oil in mine and comes in a handy little 120ml(pretty much spot on) with a little spout on top, just unscrew dip stick tube, tip it upside down, 90 secs later all done!! About $30 bottle though.
is there a drainage plug on the sc or is sucking the oil out with a syringe the easiest option?
Yes there is a drain plug on the bottom, 17mm head from memory.jack the car up and quite easy to get to from underneath. I have a pic but don't know how to attach it!
