New posts then no new posts?

The default behaviour for the new posts and things in Vbulletin up until 3.5 was to use cookies and time out the new threads even while a user was on the forum. Then once you leave the forums all threads are marked as read until new posts are made after you leave the forum.

There has been new options added and the one I have set it to should act like the old forums. The problem with this is that it's more system intensive, in fact the read posts marking on the old forum is the cause of the performance issues we had.

To add to this I made the change to the read/unread behaviour today so all threads with posts from the last 10 days will most likely show as unread until you either read them or mark them as read.

lol I wondered what happened just came in and all the forums were marke unread and I was confused. just clicked mark all forums read and continued on. Thought it may of been a glitthc or something, thanks for clearing that up.

i can read everything, mark everything, do anything, and every time i go back to a menu of the listings EVERYTHING remains unread. all the time, no matter what....

If you hit set forums as read and then refresh the page are all the forums listed as not being read?

On all the machines I have tested the read messages seem to be working fine. Any messages you haven't read or marked as read that have been posted in in the last ten days show up as unread. Once things are read they're staying read for me.

The two things I can think of that may cause unreliable behaviour in this instance would be a proxy server not always getting the latest version of the site, or a problem with the cookie on your machine as the read/unread is now dependant on cookies.

Ed's right, its still doing it, mainly on the MAIN page.

I've been to the forums probably 5 times today, and the post above mine was probably the first I read, yet its still displaying that the feedback section has unread posts.

Same with every other section.
Go into a section, view a post, go back to main page, hit refresh, and it still shows as Unread.

I'm sure if I did ctrl+f5 it would work, but I shouldnt have to do that.

its saying that there are UNREAD posts in that forum, not necessarily NEW posts...

I'm noticing it this too, but I don't think it's a bug, rather a difference in the implementation. If you looked at a post in a section on the old forums, even if there were still other unread ones in the section, it would be marked as "read" in the main section. These forums are still saying "unread" if there are any unread ones in a section.

OK now I understand what you're complaining about. There are three options ofr how the unread threads feature works in Vbulletin. Yes it is an unread posts feature not a new posts feature.

One of them is time based and times out threads while you are still logged on, anything posted after you last logged on should be shown as unread. The other works much the same except uses the cookies to make sure threads do not time out while you're logged on. The other is the one we've implemented at the moment which permanantly tracks read threads, any forum with a thread that has not been read will show as having unread threads in it. Although any thread that has not had a post made in it in the last 10 days will be marked as read automatically.
