Default is tuned lenght turbo manifold important?

i'm going to fabricate a new tubular turbo manifold for my 3T-C this weekend and i have a question about the lenght of the runners. is tuned length really important among the runners? my expected boost level will be around 20-25psi and i'm sure the engine has been prepared for it.

    Selamat detang.
Not so important with a boosted engine, but it all helps.
Have a look at my site, I have information on how to work out the lengths there.

What would help even more is converting to a 3TGTE... much better starting point, then prep that (could probably use your existing bottom end) for 20-25PSI.

But hey, 3T-C with an arseload of boost is something different.

tuned length not so much as "equal length"

if you had a tuned length turbo manifold the runners would be uber long, and you'd lose any potential benifits because of the extra gas that would need be compressed in order to spool up the turbo.

    Jfallen i disagree,
They wondnt be long (like a NA engine) the entier dynamics of the engine change, but equal length is deffently worth doing if you have the money play with different lengths and see affect on dyno

I would look at doing length via there capacity the easyest and most accurate way,

The problem with going equal length is that for every length that will help you make power, there is another which will hurt you.

As you don't know the length you want, I'd suggest deliberately going unequal to be sure that you won't get it exactly wrong.

Plus the power benefits from equal length pipes on turbo setups are debatable at best and are could well be outweighed by the extra losses in the extra bends. Go for the shortest, most direct path you can find with the least bends and you can't go wrong.

through much research and analysing i came up with the conclusion that nether length nor euality is half as important as having nice flowing shape. Few bends as possable and a nice collector with all the pipes making a nice gentle merge aiming at the turbine inlet

look at an indy car some have basically a log style manifold but it all flows together really nicely and they make crap loads of power!
a fool remains undescovered untill he speaks!
