    Default 3RZFE => yn57 ??

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has attempted the engine swap mentioned above?? A mate is starting to look at it now and i suggested this engine but have a funny feeling that it might be a little bit too expensive to do for the gains that you get. Any advice from the wise ones out there?? Any help much appreciated!! Cheers, Lee

There was two on ebay just before xmas and both went for around $1000.... Naturally aspirated I cant see the gain but if its going to be turboed it maybe a worth while conversion.

local wrecker gave me a ballpark of $2500 for just an long engine.

But i definitely can talk him down on that, if i remove it myself!

You can get brand new 2RZ's from eBay for around $2500. And the advantage is you can rev them harder, and no balance shafts. Still the tough reliability though.

or instead of a 3RZ, you can do a 1UZ conversion, cheaper and 'almost' a bolt in conversion.

I think you find the 2RZ's on ebay are non genuine motors (not from toyota)
so i would guess they are nowhere near the over engineered orginals
    KE38 - 2TG
    MS65 - 1UZ

wont fit into a yn57, they have tiny assed engine bays. You'd have to do some chopping and then theres no room for the fans on the outside as the grille hits...ive learnt the hard way

also dont expect good fuel economy with the 3RZ, they are thirsty little fuckers!

3RZ thristy, i call you out on that.

With a turbo straped to the side of mine, im getting 8.5km/l

I'd imagine at full cruise, it would be even better.

not a chance in the world! not even a pushrod v8 will fit!

    either 1 - stick with a 4cyl
    2 - go a v6
3 - sell the car and buy something more appropriate.

Robbos_Toyotas, are you thinking i meant the 1uz in saying the pushrod v8 won't fit?? (Width) Or are you talking about the length of the engine that won't fit?? Cheers Lee

length is the issue. i was originally going to fit a 7m pos...apparently the rn85 is larger? 1uz is a fuckload wider than a pushrod v8, so youd never get a good system on it either. not to mentino the trouble youd have with the sump hitting the steer link arm (relay rod)

with the aircon condensor in, i had to cut the grille to even fit a tiny thinnest i could get 10" thermo - good luck two of these cooling a 1uz with aircon! wait to dubbo nats to see my commodore powerd one, see what you think and then maybe make your mind up on that? if you can get over the fact that its a pushrod, the commodore v6 is a fucking good motor....

It's for a mate so we'll see what happens. Never considered a 1uz, way too wide but if the 1j is too long then i spose we'll have to think a little bit more about it and see what happens! Thanks for your advice anyways. Was talking to him this morning and he even suggested an sr20 or ca18det, ( Traitor) but if it comes down to it, that may be one of the only cost effective options. Cheers, Lee
