Default MA61 speedo - can it be converted to electric

    Well, can it?

I would like to change my diff ratio and CBF pulling the damn gearbag again to fit the different gear. Plus, I am sick of the cables stretching and being shit. Converting to an electronic signal would be much better.

    It's a digidash.

I am running a Haltech E11v2 so I can input the speed signal into it, process it, and then output to the dash.

I have an electronic speedo signal sensor from the gearbox (ex JZA80) so I can utilise that.

Anyone done this, or have an understanding on how the digidash works?

Or have a spare digidash I can pull to bits and play with?

Actually Ryley half the MA 61 is electronic , if you were to feed the output from the jza 80 sender to the reed switch inside the MA61 dash you would get at least get the speedo working .
The odometer won't work tho as that is mechanical from the cable .
If you wanted to spend the time you could probably graft the electronic odometer from a series 2 jza 80 into yr MA61 dash providing space allows.

As Dave said, the speedo display is electronic signal driven by mechanical bits in the dash, but the odo is direct off the mechanical bits.
Also the output from the dash (which goes to cruise control, auto ecu, etc) is driven off the mechanical bits too, so you'll loose that.

Pinouts for the speedo on the MA61 digital dash.

The J160 sensor housing is the same dimensionally as the W5x mechanical drive housing... I know this because I fitted the W58 mechanical drive to my converted J160 so I could drive the speedo in my 6 speed equipped AE71.

You do need to make sure you are using the correct drive/driven gears....

hey cam belt I don't think u can run the signal
    back up the reed switch
as that doesn't make the speedo spin
I just bought an electric to mech sucks drive speedo box
from USA and it's easy to program
but it cost me over 400 bucks landed here
but it's for an old holden so 450 bucks is cheap
