I dont believe you will have a problem because it is still an M series engine. I seem to remember Ed mentioning this when he was building up the ma61.
Just thought I'd ask you guys how easy/hard it was to get your cars rego'd/insured after an engine conversion. I'm planning to go from a 5ME to a 7MGE, small difference in displacement and non turbo but would I still need to get this engineered or certified or anything like that? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys

That would be great if I don't. I just got a quote on insurance, I currently pay $417 for 3rd party/fire/theft and with an engine conversion, added air filter, and lower suspension it only went up $9!!! Yes that's right, nine![]()
Dunno about SA but in Vic if it's within 15% of previous engine capacity and NA it's fine. i THINK.
More good news, but I'll double check it to be sure. Thanks mateOriginally Posted by haison

Beats me a bit why people ask these questions instead of talking to their local RTA![]()
Go to a transprt SA and get a permission to modify form and submit it. They'll tell you exactly what you need to do to make it road legal in SA (if and when they find the time to process it)![]()
you know what I mean this electric stream
and my tears in league with the
wires and energy and my machine
this is my beautiful dream
If I knew what an RTA was...? *me feels stupid*
But thanks for letting me know there is a form, I'll see if I can get my hands on one![]()
Road and Transport Authority (guess)
Transport SA - I just used RTA as a generic example. Any office should be able to point you in the right direction.Originally Posted by RObErT_RaTh

Thanks mate, looks like I might have to make some calls because it's getting pretty close to when I need to take the car in.
Here in S.A. you can go up 50% of your cc. Hence if you have a 2.8L motor you can go up to a 4.2L motor,Originally Posted by RObErT_RaTh
BUT there is a catch, you can only incresse your Horse power No more than 20% of the original motor fitted to that car, Hence 100 horse = 120 new.
after that you need brake up grades, & an engineers report.

From my experiences you're better off speaking to an engineer.. the NSW RTA were the most unhelpful department I have ever dealt with.. contradicting answers and suprisingly there was never a manager that I could speak to.
4AGTE SX - '4AGE' - 13.6 @ 103mph - 163fwkw @ 18psi - SOLD
1998 JZX100 Tourer V - SOLD and now lives in radelaide
1992 GTI - SOLD
The NA 7M idea has long since been abandoned unfortunately but thanks for the responseOriginally Posted by GA61XX
After 5MTE (hopefully it will last 6 months atleast) the options are 7MGTE if I want turbo or 2JZGE or 1UZFE.
7MGTE makes things easier, 2JZGE probably make decent power and can be turbo'd later, 1UZ would just sound freakin awesome![]()
what aboot MA70 -> JZA70?Originally Posted by GA61XX
am i going to have issues? since its still turbo, but less displacement, yet more power...?
Eldar.O.
i have done one of those, ( MA to JZA70, 1JZ-GTE ), a couple of months ago, seems to be ok, here in S.A.Originally Posted by EldarO
if you are doing the conversion, i would recomend you buy a half cut, & swop all the Electrical over, it makes it a lot easyer, in the long run. use the dash gauges as well,
As thecar came out of the factory, with that motor as an option, all you have to do is make your car, the same as the factory spec.![]()
you will still have to get it checked, but should not need, an engineers report,as the factory has, already done that !!
