Default G series lsd shimming question

    okee dokes.

what the best way to shim these up nice n tight?

use washers on the big spring (that loads the friction plate)
    or
can you fit in 1 extra steel and 1 extra fibre.

i pretty much want to get it almost as tight as a locker with out the welding.
    cheers

ps anyone know how much new clutch packs cost (just fibres steels are fine)

Hey guys, revived this thread as i need to know the theory behind reshimming so when i take my diff to get it done, they dont screw me for $$ because i dont understand completely what is wrong with my diff.

I have a Z20 soarer with Gseries diff
the Trans/Axel number ends in a 3 so i would assume i have a clutch pack LSD

IT is 19 years old now and has worn down to open...

Ive been told the theory behind "re-shimming" is to add in metal shims to push the worn clutches in the diff closer together .. to enable the Diff to lock again

Is this correct or is it done differently ?

In the case that i need NEW clutches to be put in, does ANYONE have any idea on cost to get this done by a company rather than DIY as i dont have the time to DIY.

    cheers gents !

your theory is correct. shims just change the preload on the clutch plates.

for your case though probably a better idea to chase down a 2nd hand unit and go from there...?

well you said time was an issue, thought the 2nd unit might be handy so you can get it rebuilt and then install it yourself, or just pay someone to do the whole thing?

How hard would it be to just replace/upgrade the clutches?
