Default Grease on backs of brake pads. Essential?

    Hi all,

Just collecting all the gear I need to change my brake pads today. I read somewhere on the internet that you need to buy special grease to put on the backs of the brake pads? Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks!

    Yo,

Probably designed to perform a similar function to the backing plates; minimises noise and etc. Essential? Don't think so. PM that guy who works in a brake shop, his name eludes me.

really depends on car and pads.. for example, on my gemini without the thermo grease stuff they would squeal like a beyatch.. with pagids.. because the squeal plates wouldn't fit otherwise.. supposedly it also increases heat transfer to the piston?

The special grease stuff dries sticky on the back of the brake pad, it acts as anti vibration and squeek. I find it a must when installing new pads.
