Hmm, that could we have been either the cause of the engine seizure, or the result.
Either way, I think its new gearbox time.
You should be able to find one for next to nix.
Hi all,
As some will know I bought a MZ20 soarer recently with a supposedly seized engine. Upon pulling the engine out and removing the gearbox the engine magically un-seized. I was going to re-attach the gearbox today and compression test the engine to see if the seize had just been knocked free when I noticed this;
Not real healthy looking. After inspection with a torch I found the missing bits of torque converter nestled between bearing and spline here;
My question is (if anyone has experience with this sort of thing), is it worth pulling the auto apart to get the bits out or is it likely to be stuffed? Not knowing the guts of an A340E all that well I don't know how far in the metal shards could have gone, but I'm taking the fact that when the box is attached it locks the engine solid as a bad sign.
Any opinions welcome

the torque convetor gets trans fluid directly from the pump in the box and then feeds in back into the gearbox proper - so the whole thing has been fed metal soup.
Good reason to think about a manual conversion?
Yeah, I thought as much, although I suspect that the engine isn't/wasn't actually seized, as I just put the auto back on to test my theory and the engine aint moving, eben with a 3 foot breaker bar on the front of the crank.Originally Posted by CrUZida
Take box back off again, engine spins freely with minimum effort. I hope it isnt seized, it'd be a score, has ARP head studs and a metal HG! Hmmmm that sure would save me the effort of changing the BHG in the supra!
Anyone selling an A340E and torque converter??

Nah, this car is the cruiser for the missus. I have the supra if i feel like thrashing a manual around! Plus $$$ is a concern with this soarer tooOriginally Posted by thechuckster

fair enuf, A340E's were found behind all sorts of engines (1ggte, 7mge, 7mgte, for starters) so you shouldn't have much trouble finding one.
Can you use a 1g a340e and swap a 7m bell housing on it and then plug and play?
I have got a torque converter in good nick. And I really don't want much for it. But shipping will be costly as this thing is quite heavy. It is from a cressida.
Dont mind what engine the box I buy was behind as long as the sensors all work with my wiring, I obviously already have a 7M bellhousing![]()

Take some photos of the solanoid plug, the speed sensor plug, and the shifter plug.
Then people will know if what they have is suitable.
I know most JZ stuff isn't useable with a UZ loom.

I've got a 7MGTE auto, and I might even be coming up to Sydney on the weekend. If you're really stuck that is...
I'd at least take off the pump to see how its seized.
