Default Wiring in Thermo's using the stock temp sensor?

Now before you tell me to do a search, i have read all of the thermo installation guides and I still have some questions.

I am installing twin thermos into my 2J aristo as the stock hydro driven fan pump is stuffed and I cant afford $1400 to get it replaced.

My question is, how do I wire up the thermo's to turn on when the stock temp switch activates?

I know that i should run the relay with the following:

30 going through a 30amp fuse to the battery positive terminal.
87 to the thermo fans positive.

Should i then ground relay point 86 and try and hook up 85 to one of the stock temp sensor pins/wires?

Any help you can give me would be appreciated. I dont have the spare money to go and buy an aftermarket thermo switch.

    Thanks
    Ben

Pics of the relay and temp sensor are below.

You should be able get a 2nd hand pump from someone else who has thrown it away.

The stock setup is far far far superior to thermo's its not funny.

I'd stick with it if you can.

Oh, and that stock sensor talks to an ecu, which activates the solenoid.

You'll need to wire the new relay into the wires that control the solenoid.

At least, thats how it works on the V8 Soarer/Celsior.

Putting in a 2nd hand pump could and most likely would cause the same failure some time in the future. Considering the amount of work involved in replacing the pump, thermo's will have to do until i find a clutch fan and radiator shroud.

I just picked up a davies craig adjustable thermo switch for $50. Not something i could afford, but its better than having them running constantly.

    Thanks anyway

the thermo fan sensor for the hydraulic pump is not a switch
it is a variable temp signal to the hydraulic fan ecu

so u will need a thermo fan switch

i sell thermo fan switch/temp gauge/volts gauge/oil temp gauge all in one small unit

it has an adjustable fan settin so u can turn fans on from 70 to 100 degrees

and has volts gauge and provision for oil temp gauge if u buy an extra sender unit

anothe rthing is and im not being rude but if you cant afford 50 bucks on yr car then you should not be owning one

sick of hearin about people cant afford to fix their cars properly

    dude, shutup.

I was expecting to pay 13 grand for my aristo landed and complied. So far its cost me over $16000 and i still have 3.5grand worth of shipping damage to fix then compliance, then rego! So yes, my budget is basically gone out the window and i cant afford to keep on spending money. Hence my thread asking for the cheapest solution!

Im sorry, i cant stand people who dont know the full story but have the balls to suggest they do!

Settle down guys, no need for the arrogance and ballbusting which is starting in this thread.

Um...like I said in the other thread, buy thermo switch that is open at room temp, two pins and has same thread as the switch in the radiator. Wire it up as per that the wiring diagrams in that thread or like the ones that can be found on the Davies Craig or Narva websites.

Not much more anyone else can do for you. You could get an autoelec (or a mate with more of an idea than yourself) to do it for you.

    Cars cost money. Sucks wang.

    Sad but true.

Yeah thanks mate, but as i said above, "I just picked up a davies craig adjustable thermo switch for $50." Its all wired up now, so i dont have to worry anymore.

PS- i had 2 grand spare when i bought this car knowing that there would be hidden "extras" needing to be done, but i was not expecting more than 5 grand! I simply started this thread hoping to find the cheapest way to wire up the thermo's, to which i found that i needed to buy a switch anyway, which i have now done. So thanks for your comments and help. It was appreciated.

Just make sure that when you get the cash you replace the DC thermo switch, because when they fail (and thats a WHEN not IF) they fail open, i.e. the thermo doesnt switch on. Most of the trident non-adjustable ones fail closed, i.e. when they fail the thermo is always on.

Try buying a car thats already complied AND registered in Australia, and then having to spend 3grand to bring it up to Australia Specs, all because the place that complied it in NSW did it dodgy and half of the stuff was never done.

That sounds very dodgy! Hope mine isnt going to the same shop....

Well I imported the car, during shipping they smashed the front bar rear bar and passenger guard. About 3.5 - 4grands worth of damage. Now they wont pay out insurance as they recon it was a "dead car" meaning the car would'nt start in Japan and had to be towed on board, which completely removes any insurance on the vehicle during shipping. The stupid thing is, the car started perfectly for a mechanic before it left Japan, and once it arrived in australia. They just didnt put the jumper pack on properly or something, so now i have to pay a $250 surcharge because they couldn't start it, and also cop the 4 grand to fix the damage they caused....

I am still fighting this with the shipping company, but im not happy!

sucks that you were ripped Ben.

I was helping a mate buy an aristo just recently and looked into importing one for him etc, but when i did the maths and allowed $3-5K for the extras, it was not worth the risk...

In the end, I found one at Version One Imports at Botany and for a 97 one, rego'd, complied on the road ready to go with 12 mths rego it was $16,500. That was Silver with Leather and the factory wide wheel kit in Excellent condition

it's had two problems ( Pwr Steer leak and Radiator leak) and the dealer replaced the pump and lines, and put a new radiator in it - all under the included warranty...

I know where I am buying my Aristo from....

    oops, forgot to mention...
I have a Davies Craing thermo switch here you could have had cheap.. I did not offer it originally as I didn't realise you wanted to go that way, and I personally don't like them and went with the $30 Jaycar kit and used the Original switch that the ECU uses... Took about 20-30 mins longer to fit, but gives me far more acurate control and I even have a dashboard LED to indicate when the thermos are on so i can see if there is a problem etc..
