no they dont have rockers
and yes, rod knock definitely sounds like it comes from the head on the 7m (no idea why)
I thought that rod knock would have come from the bottom end not up in the actual head somewhere?
Do 7Ms have rockers or not? as the noise is definately coming from the top of the motor and when i used a stethoscope it sounded like it was coming from cylinder 3.... as soon as i listened to the block i heard nothing...
not trying to argue with what this may be just hoping that more info will hopefully get the idea of rod knock out of my head....

when not under power or acceleration the noise goes away completely... and if your just light on the throttle to stay at a speed it dissappears too....

my 1g with stupid shim over bucket has one noisy tappet, that seems to go away at high revs. im doubting its rod knock as its a fresh motor...although maybe the blown oil pump...but no, it was always noisy
i hope
anyways, are we sure its not a shim out?

Otherwise, you can probably assume it to be the percussion section of the 7M's lower symphony orchestra.
If you can get someone who's had a dead 7M (or Falcon) or two before to listen to it, they should be able to tell you straight away.
yeah thats the plan for tonight... im gonna spend a couple of hours trying to hunt down the noise and narrow things down...
anyone out there killed a 7M before and wanna listen?

I wouldn't mind a listen, depending whereabouts you are...
my cressida (gte) has caught pretty bad bottom end noises from somehwere. When it wasn't as bad, it sounded like it was coming from the head, and would seem louder, or at least less muffled, when the oil cap was off.
so naturally the first thing i did was put another head on it, which of course didn't fix the main 'tapping'. It did get rid of some general noise though, becuase as it turns out the original cam journals/bearings weren't in great condition. Looks like what i presume is evidence of oil starvation.
from what i can work out, the reason it was louder with the oil cap off is becuase there's that pipe (oil return? pcv?) that runs up to just under the cap. it goes down into the block, and i reckon the sound was basically coming up the pipe
it's all good learning! (apart from the frustration and sometimes cash)
