    Default How to P/S & A/C Delete ON 1JZ.

    Hey guys.

after having some problems with my power steering rack and A/C (which has never worked) i decided to find a way to delete them. Had a look on the Interwebs and found what the Americans use for this but the Part numbers for Honda S2000 idler pulley they use is different to the Australian dayco one.

    American Recommendations
    Belt: Goodyear-4060390
New Idler Pulley: Dayco-49017 76mm 8 rib - apperently comes up as a bush of some sort in the australian codes for dayco?

    Australian Solution
    Belt: Gates 6PK990 - 20mm wide, 6 rib, 990 length
    Idler Pulley: NuLine EP010 - 76mm O.D., bearing 17mm I.D., 26mm Wide

Total cost $65 from autobarn... prob get it cheaper if you went cheaper brands/stores... but they were the only ones open on thursday night.

    Thanks.

so u want to still use the 1jz belt tension setup, but with a different pulley to sute the new belt route?

i can measure the bearing later tonight if thats the one ur after?

im goin to get rid of it all (maybe even water pump) and make the belt just run to the alt. and have an adjuster arm to the alt for tension of the belt

Yes, thats what im planning. just have the alt & water pump running on one belt, since you delete the P/S and A/C the pulley is on the wrong way around so you need to get one with ribs on it... apparently...

so need the dims so i can find one hopefully tomorrow to throw on.

i actually have a part number for running just a belt with the alt on it at home. will post it up later tonight... a mate had a 1jz running a daive craig elec water pump

    Damn john, no PS !?
well on my 1JZ without the aircon its : 6PK 1865,

    the numbers represent the length...

So i guess you need to measure with some string and get a number that is below 1m865cm (1865mm)

not to bothered about belts, just getting the pulley is the main thing.

plan is once i has race seat in. run the biggest dia steering wheel i can find and no PS for more steering input (hopefully) because at the moment there is way to much assist in the rack.

we thought it is just easier to fab up a slotted altenator bracket, and piss everything off like we did?? the alt and water pump pulleys are just a pair of the cheap ebay style supra ones.. and just made a little bracket to sit a little cover over the hole in the timing covers for neatness..

(excuse the shitty iphone pics, i can get better detailed macro shots tonight/tomorrow and update with belt length)

Let us know how you go, hopefully that's enough belt coverage on the main crank pulley to grip, I tried the same setup on my 1JZ a few years back (despite the best advice that it wouldn't suffice) and had problems with belt slip. Now I run a dummy power steering pump, which is just an idler pulley instead, to run a more OEM path for the belt, which covers much more of the pulleys.

    Best of luck with yours
    Cheers

yours has a lot more coverage on the main crank pulley though mattyshop, compared to the picture further up the page. Still not a lot on the alternator pulley though, but sounds like its worked ok so far.

Water pump is easy to drive, not a huge load, but I was surprised at how much drag an alternator can put on the belt when under full electrical load (headlights on, thermo on, fuel pumps at 60psi on boost etc). You could see the shredded balls of rubber around the engine bay, even though you couldn't hear the belt screeching.

BTW: That engine bay looks horn what car is it? [edit] looks commodorish....

Post the length up when you can, will add it to the first post..

"Different length belts for 1JZ" or something along those lines.

running with the new ilder pully on the weekend i really didnt notice any squeeks apart from a slight one on the way home in 10deg wet weather. drove from logan to stanthorpe, drifted for 6 hrs on and off and drove home. if i do keep it non Ps i might consider deleting the pulley as well but at the time getting a new ilder was the easyer option.
