I agree I personally don't see the fascination with blanking out plates... It would be handy if all for sale ads had a vin as well for REVS checks and the like, but I suppose the ads are only to make 1st contact...
hey i notice when reading trading post etc that all cars that are advertised for sale must include the license plate number (if registered) so that you can make checks on the car.
a lot of cars advertised here have their licence plate blanked out, not displayed or not disclosed.
also i have no idea as to why anyone wants to blank out their plates, weather they are selling their car or not, what can someone do with your license plate details?
i am sure there must be something in the trade practices act about displaying license plates on cars for sale (judging by the amount of publications and even tv adverts that flash up the number plate etails on cars they are selling) maybe it is worth looking into this for toymods?
even if it would make it easyer to find information about the car for sale.

theyre blanked out so theives, cops, and other people cant identify the car on the street, and know exactly what modifications, products, av gear, security system etc etc it contains
if you want to revs check a car - call the seller, hell, hows about you even inspect it in person?

Users performing REVS checks could also help admins to quickly identify users attempting to sell stolen cars via this site... something that should be discouraged.

I think that it sounds like a good idea also, but I also agree with ed_jza80... (Frikin fence sitters)
But, if somebody wants to steal your car/mods, all they have to do is request to view the car, and then knowing where they live and the condition of the parts, they can come over and steal the cars/mods anyway!
So blanking your plates would only be a good idea when it's a Members ride or technical type of situation, with the for sale threads it really doesn't make a difference, as there's plenty of other ways...
I also believe that if we are going to suggest/inforce a seller to provide the registration number, then I believe that the Chassis and Engine numbers should also be provided as the registration number alone will not allow a stolen vehicle/finance/crash history check! (in Victoria at least, not sure on the other states)
I agree with Ed on this one.
How many cars on here are family hacks like in the Trading Post?
And if you want to find out, contact the seller, stop being lazy.
And if you had a fairly modified car & you weren't sure about the person inspecting it, would you give them your address? I know I'd being finding a servo or a shopping centre carpark instead.

yea i suppose that this is a pretty honest community.
i was just wondering because all car ads i have seen display the numberplate (even the trading post) i was wondering if it was a legal thing.
maybe because toymods is not for profic we are exempt or something anyway?
also i didnt realise that you can find out so much about a car with just the numberplate like ed says.
when i do a lot of mods i dont usually tell the rta or anything so how can they know?

if a car is registered, then when advertised thru trading post, it should have the plates displayed.Originally Posted by PlacentaJuan
however, toymods is a private sale (to my way of thinking). you are not paying for advertising, and is the same as stuff for sale on any message board.
you don't tell the rta... ok.... the mods thing is so that if some dodgy bugger sees the car on the street, remembers the plate and goes "ahah, my cus needs some of those parts" etc....

It is a legal thing, and that's why if your car is unregistered you must supply the Chassis or Engine number instead...Originally Posted by PlacentaJuan
But as oldcorollas stated, an add on Toymods is classed as private selling...
I think pics can be blanked out at owners discretion on the forum in for sale sections. VIN and rego numbers should not have to be supplied unless the owner would like that information published.
If you are genuinely interested in buying the car, not wasting the owners time, you will go and look at it, and you can check VIN & rego after that.
Too many lurkers out there on the internet to provide such vital information so freely.
