Default 185 3S custom intake manifold

is any1 running a custom intake manifold and plenum on their 3S (185 version)

Im looking for a custom one that will not sit as close to the firewall as the standard one. As in bring the manifold and intake runners closer to the head. Only looking to do this for firewall clearance reasons, not necesarily performance reasons, although might as well get some extra perfomance while im going down this road. Also wouldnt mind the throttle body on one end of the plenum rather than the side. Doesnt really matter which end as i will plumb the cooler to suit.

Possibly even a RWD setup manifold may be the way to go, as these will have the throttle at the end already and might be a narrower design.

Any1 know of any for sale or any1 who has a jig ready to knock one up?

    Cheers

find a gen 1 3sge intake manifold, enters through the side, or a gen 2 3sge intake and unbolt the top and make a new plenum......

it gives a little more clearance although it doesnt look it.

thats not a bad idea at all, that puts the throttle body in the perfect spot for me.

Does the gen 1 3s-ge manifold have the same spacing/bolt pattern as the 185 3s-gte manifold though?

nope 3s was never released north south, only option for that is to run factory 185 plenum and run the pipe across the cam cover or go custom you can short cut it by using the gen 2 3sge plenum because it is 2 piece. so bang up a plenum to sit on the std runners.

Excellent!!! This definatly appears to be the way to go. So thats a gen1 out of 162 celica then? If not what car is it out of?

Any idea how much extra clearance there is? like how much narrower the manifold is compared to standard 185 engine?

Im building up another motor for my AW11 with 3S-GTE in there, but the thing is that if i can get the motor back far enough in the bay then i will be able to run big custom turbo and manifold. hence the reason im trying to narrow up the intake side of things.
As you can imagine its a tight fit as it is, so any extra clearance will make heat dissipation much better.

In my experience, fitting the 3SGE Gen1 plenum didn't change the distance on how close the edge of the plenum was from the firewall.

Here it is on an old motor that I had bought for spares:
